Do you LOL too much?

"Ah...but does LOL mean laugh out loud or lots of love??
I always mean it as laugh out loud. "
I knew someone who got that wrong and thought it meant Lots Of Love. Her messages were not always well received.
“Sorry to hear your dog died.
LOL
Jane”

"I hate this passionately. If you've left school, please stop using it.
Lets act old and miserable instead
Ironically I think using lol is acting old. "
Yep. My kids would never use lol. They would use 💀 |

Exactly. The “cool kids” use emojis these days. Anyone still using lol is showing their age. |

David Cameron always used to do that until someone explained to him what it meant. |

"No.
People who actually say lol?
Awful humans.
How about if you look at someone and say "lol" in an entirely deadpan fashion with absolutely zero sign of any happiness "
Hmm. Slightly less awful. I'm picturing Malcolm Tucker doing it and I don't hate it. |

I call people who use 'lol' 'lollards'.
Yes,I do know that Lollards were followers of a religious persuasion and had little to laugh about but probably shared lots of love.
Until a few decades ago it was fairly common to see 'LOL'in family letters. Note the use of capitals, standards were higher then.
Lolling around has always been a lazy activity. Despite being a naturally bone idle person, I dislike the usage as I am not given to crowd following.
In nearly all cases, a simple exclaimation mark conveys the sentiment adequately! |

"If you are texting and want to convey that you are laughing what do you use?
•
I'll use the laughing emoji (conservatively) or even a "Ha!" or just say "that just made me laugh!".

You forgot the exclamation mark at the end. The exclamation mark adds a smidgen of intensity. 😉 |
