"The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."

When you hear people talk about "kids today" or judge their behaviour and the things they say. I suspect they conveniently forget what a monumental twat they could be at the same age. They probably don't realise that parents for generations have been complaining about their children's behaviour for as long as people have been having children.

By the way the quote above was by Socrates and was made in approximately 330BC

It's a natural order that older people are concerned about, and care for younger people.

I'm glad it's that way.

Yes I was a brat

But wouldn't have dreamed of talking to my Parents the way my Granddaughter talks to her Mum

And I suspect if you some to your parents I suspect they'd have said the same about you. We always forget the worst things we do

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

My mother just doesn't 'get' her grandchildren. She thinks they should behave like she did when she was young in the 40s. Trying to explain to her that the world is now a VERY different place just doesn't cut it. Kids should be seen, not heard, and not have any luxuries whatever. They should be grateful for basics and never, ever complain. Which is a strange point of view considering my mother hasn't stopped complaining as long as I have known her.

lol

There's a great psychological perspective on this.

"We judge others by their behaviour and ourselves by the intentions behind our behaviour."

So what she's doing she feels, is reasonable, whereas their behaviour is not.

When people talk about kids being rude thy forget that all of us behaved badly when we were teenagers. We may just believe we weren't

I know me and my sisters caused my parents quite a lot of grief. My daughter caused me grief too but now she is a lovely young lady. Although I might be biased.

Fortunately for most of us, behaving like a knob is a temporary state of affairs

i havnt forgoten anything bad i did or said when i was a kid, but compared to most kids these days i was an angel.

too many parents spoil their kids, and dont teach them any manners or how to behave and consider other people.
