they wasnt one around and to be honest theres way too much torq with steam power and you can get hurt badly with one.

if used with a wheel type

however if i did then i would go the sliding table route 60-100 strokes per minute.

shaper machine

safer with a gear wheel and sliding bed but still has plenty of torq with it.
