Anyone thinking of speeding 40 over the limit just say you are anxious about your mother waiting at the airport

I wonder what other excuses/ reasons the judge would accept. I needed an extra cup of tea before I left for work so now have to speed? My hamster wanted to show me how many times he could go round on his wheel?

Gone and completely forgotten.

Tell them you are Sir Alex Ferguson, and desperate for a shit.

A colleague of mine claimed he was desperate for a pee when stopped by police for speeding.

Was his mother incapable of waiting at the airport?

If he wasn't deliberately speeding that implies he wasn't aware of how fast he was going. That's scary

I'm not sure if people think he was let off ........ he wasn't

He got a £650 fine.

(usually £100 and 3 points )

The judge accepted he wasn't speeding for speeding's sake and was speeding for a reason ' to get to his mum on time' BUT the judge explained that the reason was NO EXCUSE and landed a heavier fine than usual.

I'd have asked for the usual and a speeding course or 3 points

I don’t think a speed awareness course is available if you are more than a certain percentage over the limit, which in this case I’m thinking he would have been well over.

You are right Huggy ......

over 86 mph you are stymied ( in a 70 zone of course ) other zones are lower

You’re right. But I think it’s a simple over 10mph over and you won’t be offered a course but I’m not 100%

Over 96mph, (again I could be wrong but fairly certain) and it goes to court. You can’t get a fixed penalty offer. It also nearly always means a ban so if they were doing 100mph and didn’t get banned, they got off lightly. I got caught at 107 in my younger, boy racer days. My employer wrote a letter explaining I’d split from my kids mother and lived 40 miles away and next to no public transport links to get to them or work. I avoided a ban but got 6 points and a hefty fine and court costs. £460 and this was about 20 years ago.

It's the use of the phrase 'not deliberately speeding '. How was this unintentional? The effect of him speeding would be the same whatever his reason for doing so

A read of the very small article says he was fined £650 and had 5 points put on his licence for doing 100 mph in a 60 zone. The judge understood his reason but never accepted it. What's the story here? I miss Tom 😕

If his mum is able to get on a plane then surely she could wait a little longer while her son drove within the speed limit

Is this where the speeding offense took place?

At the courts discretion though, courts have varied options punishment wise....

A work colleague of mine was given a speed awareness course for doing 27mph due to the stupid new Welsh 20mph rules on a road that was previously 30mph and had never had an incident on in the 97yrs of its existance...

Near Abercynon

I got caught at a very slightly lower speed than that and wasn't really intentionally speeding as such.

I'd been stuck behind a lorry overtaking another lorry for ages and when he moved over I briefly put my foot down just as I approached a bridge with a cop with a speed gun on.

It went to court, 5 points and about £600 fine.

Fair enough in my eyes.

Ahhhhhh but Ruggers.... 'in excess' and 'more than' are the key phrases there. He was guilty of neither and so ..... not let off.

His name was 'Moron' .... fact

I'd always thought that going 100+ got you an automatic ban 🤔 That's disappointing.

I did laugh at the name Moron yes

The more than is relevant though, he was in a 60 zone so was "more than" 30MPH on top of the speed limit.

According to lots of information sites it is. Someone mentioned but it is up to the judges discretion...so back to my original answer, all say your able mum who is using airplanes cannot wait for someone to turn up to pick her up and you might get a lesser deterrant

I missed that fact. I'd assumed he was on a motorway.....

So he was , in fact, 'let off'.

No, just a small town on the coast in Essex, not too far from Colchester.

Maybe pissing yourself on purpose while talking to the copper then saying see I was desperate for the bog would authenticate your excuse for speeding? I never speed even if I wanted to since drive a slow as shit tipper truck but maybe someone else on here can try it and report back?

I struggle to see how this is anything other than a ban and lose your licence episode.

Mrs Moron senior was waiting at the airport. Any right minded person would excuse travelling at 100 mph in a 60 zone. I mean if you killed someone their relatives would understand completely.
