Loud 1980s style gym grunting and swearing and weight slamming in the gym today.
Simply because some guy had erected not one, but two tripod/ringlight/phone setups to record himself performing a generic full body warm up routine on the only deadlift platform, while taking up a bench for his kit bag.
I really detest people who use the public space like this.
Anyway. Got that off my chest. Carry on |

"Obviously thinks they are an “influencer”.
Surely that much equipment shouldn’t be allowed. Trip hazard etc.
"
It is an obstacle and also forces people to take more circuitous routes carrying equipment around the gym to avoid getting 'in shot'. Which increases the risk of injury to others.

A while ago I was at the gym and got to watch my local wannabe gymfluencer recording herself on various bits of equipment before nipping off to the changing rooms to change outfits and pose for further pics…then repeat this process!
I noticed the staff were laughing behind her back so wandered over for a chat-turns out she’s well known for popping down the gym occasionally and taking a month’s worth of gym selfies in one go, but never actually doing any real exercise. |

"This is the 1 reason I won’t hit the gyms, they need to ban phones, I don’t want to end up somewhere on the net slating my wobbly arse"
This. No recording should be allowed in gyms. There's no purpose to it anyway other than the IG circlejerk. |

There are some legitimate reasons like checking form. But you don't need a tripod and ringlight for that. If my form feels squirrely, I prop my phone on my water bottle. It's good enough. |

"I think you need to find yourself a proper gym OP. If it only has one deadlift platform then that tells you everything."
Unfortunately its the only gym close to me with 24 hour access. On weekdays I'm in the gym at about 0530. |

Indeed. Furthermore, gym walls are usually lined with mirrors for that very reason. Or one could ask a more experienced member or a PT to have a look, I always found other gym-goers to be extraordinarily helpful towards neophytes. |

We’ve got a proper hardcore gym nearby and it’s got tripods set up near all the equipment to film your workouts. One of the world’s best powerlifters trains there. As much as I dislike tripods in gyms I don’t think any of us here would walk into that gym and dare tell any of them they’re doing it wrong. |

In which case why wouldn't you point this out to either the person or complain to gym management and ask them to resolve? |

For lifts like the squat it is useful to see from the side to check the bar path. Difficult to see when thr mirror is in front of you. |

Good luck finding gym staff on a Sunday. |
