How to give a cat a pill...

1.Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger and thumb on either side of cat’s mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in palm of right hand. As cat opens mouth, pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

2.Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

3.Retrieve cat from bedroom, and throw soggy pill away.

4.Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

5.Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from garden.

6.Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down side of ruler and rub cat’s throat vigorously.

7.Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered Hummell figures from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

8.Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with cat’s head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force

cat’s mouth open with pencil and blow down cat’s throat through drinking straw.

9.Check label to make sure pill is not harmful to humans, drink glass of water to take taste away.

Apply Band- Aid to spouse’ s forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

10.Retrieve cat from neighbor’s shed. Get another pill. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with dessert spoon. Flick pill down throat with elastic band.

11.Fetch screwdriver from garage and put door back on hinges. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus jab.

Throw tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

12.Ring fire department to retrieve cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Remove last pill from foil- wrap.

13.Tie cat’s front paws to rear paws with garden twine and bind tightly to leg of dining table. Find heavy duty pruning gloves in shed, force cat’s mouth open with a small wrench. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of fillet steak. Hold head vertically and pour 1/2 pint of water down throat to wash pill down.

14.Get spouse to drive you to emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

15.Arrange for RSPCA to collect cat and ring local pet shop to see if they have cute puppy for sale.

W S AREA

This method works for me , keep the cat really hungry for 24 hours or so and then sparingly feed it by hand with small pieces of dry cat food 1 piece at a time

just give it a few pieces every few hours or so untill it wolfes down every crumb as its starving

then after a few more hours give it 2 or 3 and then on the third piece give it the pill

most of the time it will eat the pill as it has been kinda brainwashed into expecting another bit of dry food

if that dont work do as someone else said and poke it up its bottom

Never had any luck giving a pill whole to a cat. The current one is even feistier than her predecessor (male cats know their place in the pecking order). With some success, I've crushed the pill and mixed it in with the stinkiest - and for a cat - the most delectable food that they enjoy. Whenever possible, the vet gives me a liquid suspension - it's far easier to administer, as long as you squeeze it in slowly, so that the cat doesn't feel like she's choking.

How do you keep a cat hungry for 24 h unless you vacate the premises? Mine would be sizing me up for dinner

I've found that it's not necessary to dose all my cats as the fleas jump on and off each one so will get killed when they bite the cat with the flea potion on.

I've only got one cat, but she smells it as soon as I break the seal on the ampoule.

I normally get it ready while she's asleep.

Can't hold the cat and get it ready.

We do our own shots and drops of course, there is a VERY easy way to do those with a cat...

Find a countertop, preferably about 5' long or longer.

be ready and hold cat by the back of his head and neck... slide cat across counter while doing shot or drops. Cats do NOT like sliding generally and will be more concerned about that then the needle or drops being applied.

pills though, your on your own.

and if anyone has horses.. to give them shots, feed them after dark and give them the shot then, their instincts tend to make them NOT jump when its dark. usually anyway. any horses that like to rear up when given shots we just do that way.

hope this trivia helps someone, lol

My sweet little gentle natured cat turns into a Tasmanian devil when there is any kinda pills. I asked how the nurses at the vets did it and they sold me a pill popper. The best £2.50 ever spent :D

Ya must have one hell of a fussy cat.
