"Are you a straight talker or a waffler?
Are you good at reading between the lines and/or picking up signals?

Oh I waffle for England. Although I can also be very blunt and upset people. I’m terrible at reading cues to the point I think I may occasionally guest on the spectrum. |

I'm terrible at reading cues also. I have in the past read too much into it and not enough.
I prefer to be told straight, and then I know where I stand.

"I’m generally very accurate at picking up signals and reading between the lines. I call it a survival skill.
I waffle when I’m stressed or upset. "
I have known to waffle when I'm stressed. And I can waffle when I'm in the company of someone I fancy. definitely blown that date 🤷♀️ |

I prefer this too, right up to the point someone is brutal and that echoes through my brain for weeks. I can have emotional detachment when I’m doling it out but am a lot more sensitive when I’m on the other side. I find it difficult to strike a balance. |

I would say I’m probably more of a waffler, Hubby is definitely more of a straight talker.
Hubby is quite good at reading between the lines, I’m good at picking up signals.
I think we make a great team 😊

Definitely a straight talker, sometimes at the expense of tact (not at that of manners, though).
Decent at reading between the lines, terrible at picking up signals. |

With someone I know, direct and blunt.
With a stranger, indirect and circumspect.
.
Albert Mehrabian broke down the components of communication and found that
.
55% of communication is non-verbal (body language).
38% vocal(intonation).
7% words only (actual words themselves).
I'm not good with the 38%, so I focus on the 55% and the 7% especially.
.
I probably expend 80-90% of my effort on the words (7%) and 8-9% effort on the 55% (body language).
1% on the intonation if I fancy driving myself crazy.
.
If you intoned something was mega super urgent, I would not translate that intonation.
.
If you told me, I would get it right away.
If you stood there wringing your hands, I'd most likely notice, but not associate the anxiety with urgency. Probably something else. Like needing the loo.
