Okay hear me out, so in December last year I started at a gym, started attending these nutrition classes and it worked I lost over a stone in weight in four months.
It would be fair to say that I've lapsed again in the past four months and some of the pounds have returned. I am more active than I was but the gym sessions have lapsed with life taking over again, particularly in these past three months to the point where I've gone down from three visits to the gym a week to one every fortnight.
How do you regain that misplaced earlier motivation that seems to have gone into hiding? |

Motivation for me is all about understanding my why. And a big part of training and eating consistently is about habits and routine e.g. fling a meal plan, creating a list, prepping what I need in advance. |

I think you have to be realistic in what you can keep up in the long term. Maybe cut down the time in the gym if getting there is tricky and replace it with real time activities like walking more, parking the car further away, getting off the bus a stop earlier or taking the stairs more.
Also, don’t forget how well you have done. You recognise the weight gain so you can take action, it’s not too late.
Don’t punish yourself, just take it on the chin and learn from it and continue the journey.
And well done on your journey so far! |

Be kind to yourself , try to find a exercise you enjoy if you can it less like a task then , never underestimate a good walk or run if that your thing a prefer being outdoors even a 20 min hit blast in the garden if you got one , just easier to be motivated out in the air , I go through periods of training more than others just try to find a fun thing and be consistent if you can , good luck m8 |

It's difficult to keep a steady routine when life issues intrude.
But surely, the results you were happy with could be that extra motivation to continue being regular? Even if it meant attending the gym at times previously thought inconvenient for you? |

Thanks so much for the comments so far. Crimson excellent points. Planning and prep has never been that strong a suit and especially around meals this is something I can definitely improve on.
La Luna too, yeah some of the further walking will certainly help. I think I've been too keen to go all out at times and I have to admit that I've naturally slowed down a little in the last ten years! I get niggles because I've not been used to doing this stuff.
Thanks Wee, Dave and _hillout. Habits take a little longer to make. Tomorrow is a new day and going to start with the exercise bike I think |

Also, if you return to the gym more, decide on an ll frequency and schedule that's not OTT and the ln stick to it. Even if you go and stay 5 minutes, you'll ingrain the router havitm
Only don't go, if you substitute an alternative exercise activity for that slot. But aim to keep your gym time for gym.

What's sustainable for you, OP? The best routine is one that you can realistically stick to.
If weight loss is your goal, there's loads you can do without ever setting foot in a gym. Do you like any other sports? Can you simply walk more? Key is finding something you enjoy so it's not a chore!
From you post, it sounds to me that you have the motivation, you just need to find the vehicle. Good luck! |

Don't be ashamed, mate. I promise no-one is judging you (and sod 'em if they are). Gym goers come in all shapes and sizes! |
