Hi all just wanted some advice if any of you have any?
Been having partial seizures for the last three odd years and after various brain scans tests etc -all clear of anything - its been decided I require some medication which will be for life but will prevent further seizures and also stop them developing into actual fits.
Well ok I am fine taking tablets for the rest of my life but I will then have to stop driving for one year - I shouldn't be as it is now - but my issue is this. . .
If I chose to have more children the risk of the baby having deformaties increases 7-15percent.
I am on my own as it is but I dont want to take my chance away.
What would you do?
They are giving me the choice and I have 12weeks Ty decide as I refused to make the decision. However they want me to take them. |

Please take this as not meaning to offend as not intended but imagine that if you were to drive have a seizure and kill someone knowing it could be prevented is not worth doing and should not even be considered.
As for having children and risk of deformities is a very tough one and purely fron my view as a dad and grandad if i was told by having another there was the risk i would not consider it as ultimately ny needs would be put before the child.
First and foremost at the minute your own health is most important and i wish you well whatever you decide. |

No offence taken.
Rarely drive as it is.
Because the partial seizures I have are more an absence state than a fit - never had a fit - its on my mind do I decide to have no kids and take the med or not have the med and continue as I am until I am sure I dont want more children?

You are quite right to think this through. Try and find if there's any support out there with others who have had to make the same decision. However, I know someone who has been in this situation and opted for the medication, she's a young mum and she now has the anxiety lifted of having the seizures whilst caring for her young family. The driving issue was a pain in the ass, but was only for 12 months and friends and family rallied round to help. Whatever your decision, hope it all works well for you x |

I have had professional advice.
Asking advice off someone who may have experience.
Thank you
Dont require any nasty comments or saying I shouldn't ask because I did ask. . Simple. |

But other peoples experience will not be the same as yours. There may be similarities, but they will not be the same.
You state that the medical profession has been aware of your condition for 3 years and (I assume after testing) they have advised that you take the medication.
As is their duty they have highlighted the risks to you, but despite those risks they feel that the medication provides the best solution for YOU.
I would take the advice of those medical professionals and not of a group of people who can only provide examples relevant to them, NOT YOU !
We are all entitled to a second opinion medically. If you are unhappy with the current suggestion, take a MEDICAL second opinion of someone who is trained professionally in this area.
Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best |

Anybody who has seizures of any kind should not even consider getting behind a wheel of a car.
No matter how much advice you get there is only you that could make the decision.
Personally I would take the medication as fear as would happen to my other children if I had a seizure whilst bathing them or cooking dinner .... |
