"Milk should never be put into Earl Grey.
It should be d*unk black to savour the aromatic bergamot.
It is served with a slice of orange. Never lemon. "
Surely, if you like something a certain way, convention can go hang.

MAMOBA, miles and miles of bugger all (Aberdeenshire) |
black here, never milk in earl grey. Traditionally served with lemon or orange... and they now do 2 lovely other blends of earl grey - lady grey (orange) and sunshine grey (lemon)
Mind I drink any tea black as I detest milk! |

"I tried it once.
That was enough."
Ditto. Siren's a tea fanatic and we have all sorts of teas in the cupboard but I like mine from PG and in a bag. Nothing else will do. |

Oh my, no....
Just black is how one would traditionally take Earl Grey but as with everything else these days, anything goes.
I take breakfast tea black with lime or lemon.
Very civilized indeed.... |

Some research suggests that introducing milk into black tea suppresses the tannin content to some extent. Tannin, in tea, is supposed to be good for you. |

"I take milk with mine but someone said its a no no and even sniffed by tea (very odd person)
How do you take yours?
Milk or lemon? "
Milk? In Earl Grey? If you're going to kill of the bergamot why not just drink Tetley's? |

Except its so much nicer than Tetleys, just couldn't do it black. I like Lady Grey too just find it not as strong flavoured as Earl Grey |

Always a splash of skimmed milk in mine. Doesn't seem to diminish the taste of the bergamot for me. However, I recently discovered Chocolate Tea, and has been by cuppa of choice since. |
