I live in the West London area. I brought my car to get cleaned. I was quoted "£150 Full Monty" which is detailing the inside, his words not mine. And £400 for ceramic coating, paint correction with full monty. I'm thinking that's way too much.

Honestly that’s a good price.

I took my car to a detailer as foolishly I took it to get washed by someone at Tesco in their car park.

They used dirty water and in one place could see slight scratches

To have it taken back, waxed, coated with ceramic was £650.

Looked like a brand new car after and everytime I had it properly washed after it came up amazing

Funny you should say that as it was at a underground Tesco car wash. Didn't see any dirty clothes though.

There’s a difference between detailing and valeting or washing. A wash or valet is pretty much just a clean and a hoover. A good detailer will clean every nook and cranny of your car - which could include under the hood, under the car - places you don’t even see. It should then be good enough for a car show.

Ceramic coatings protect your car and reduce the need for car washing. A good one lasts years.

When I bought my car I spent over £1k on coatings and detailing. I’ve never had to wash it and seven years later it’s still in showroom condition. (And holding its value). If you can find a good detailer (and not a chancer) then it’s definitely worth it.

Do you drive the car regularly?

I don't value my car so much that I would ever consider detailing

I also don't keep them for that 18-24 months max

I like a clean car, but I can't compute hundreds of pounds for a gleaming car

I get mine valeted for £13 inside and out every fortnight

Get out the car and enjoy a bacon butty in the cafe whilst the lads clean it

Does me fine

That’s a good price my friend.

Paint correction and Ceramic is a time consuming task yet worth it. I’d be happy, especially in London for that price.

Seems a lot, but I spend all day doing my own. I’m lucky I’m a Geek, and know what I’m doing, that price is bob on.

Best of luck no matter your decision .

I just got my car cleaned for £75, he turned up at the house and did inside and out, wheel trims and got a few scratches removed, good value for money. So there are probably bargains to be had out there.

My god what sad little lives you have…

Drove up a lane in Cornwall and some bellend in a I’ve no idea what it was BMW was coming down and was in the middle of the road.. stopped dead holding all the traffic so politely told him he’s going to need to pull it into the hedge so we can all get past or I’m going to drive my van all the way down his car.

The idiot then very badly reverses down the lane for about 500 yards forcing other cars to do the same so he didn’t get some scratches on his paintwork!!!

Labour cost money, especially these days with inflation. The time of anyone with a skill has value in itself and is not as cheap as it used to be. That's why for me if I'm buying a service I like to see how many hours of labour is going into that service. It helps me calculate if something is good value for money or not.

Cornwall is bad enough as it is sometimes with the locals and tourists driving there, like fuck would I scratch the paintwork on my bmw either being the wanker I am.

Fortunately though I can reverse .

German paintwork is bloody expensive you know!

That price in London is a bloody bargain!

If it is actually done correctly!

I know I own a very nice Custom Volkswagen Campervan but I’m not afraid to scratch it…I’m guessing like many folks they had their car on some hire/purchase lease thing…wants a nice car but couldn’t afford to buy it!

When you live in Cornwall and they wind the window down speaking in a thick Birmingham accent it’s relatively safe to assume they don’t own it…

What a simpleton view... Would you moan if someone came in your house, and didn't take their muddy work boots off at the door? Just because you're not fussed about your vehicle, don't try and belittle others for having a different outlook.

Why would I care about muddy work boots in my house? Why would anyone care about mere possessions?

I would think twice before calling someone a simpleton.

Seems a good price OP

but make sure it’s as described! I have a Vito 119 camper and the ceramic coating was £900 it is worth it as one contributor says above

BUT I would suggest if your going to keep it for three /five years then if you can - go for it
