Is the art of dating dead or changed and if so for better or worse?
When I started dating you either met someone in a club or disco (showing my age) or was a friend of a friend
Now it’s swipe left or right a few messages and a decision made.
The fun of meeting someone seems to have dissolved as so much is talked about before any potential first meet and a positive or negative decision made.
The photos we show are the potential best we have or poses we like, we can write anything to play someone along but actually meeting someone and having personal interactions with them, seeing their eyes and reading their body language surely has to be better, assuming you can get passed the swiping and messages

"It's just different.
There were forms of dating before clubs n pubs n factories and offices......
Things change"
They do and sometimes they need to, do you think it’s now easier to potentially miss what could be a great connection though basing it on swiping left or right, for me I need to meet the person to really know |

Yes, dating has changed a lot in the past 20/25 yrs or so.
And personally I think it's actually for thr worse.
Like you said OP it's easy to say what they want to hear and edit pictures. But are you showing the real you off? No.
Life has also changed so much in that time also again is that for the better or has it got worse.
I think we need to embrace online dating and try to get a face to face meet in quickly so you can starting seeing the real person.

I totally agree. I find things can “fizzle” out if you don’t get to meet face to face pretty quickly. Or burn hot and heavy for a bit then it’s done |

I still think people do meet when they're out? Maybe just the preserve of the young(er) folk though?
You'd not find me in a club or disco if not under protest these days, and if a stranger chatted me up I'd be highly suspicious. I also think my requirements have shifted a lot from age 20ish. These days I actually want a conversation for a start ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Dating has definitely changed for the worse. You really can't beat the face to face connection and hook ups are on the decline also. If you're looking at your phone you're not looking up at all the pretty ladies walking by. Think about it. That eye to eye spark. |

Has dating changed much? Only if you do it differently OP. I guess for us oldies it seems really different… but then so does the lack of being able to slam the phone down or not being able to get a pint for a £1.

Dating has changed. It has always been evolving from the friends setting up a blind date to speed dating and online dating. I find online dating sites don't suit me at all. Despite my last relationship lasting 9 years started with an online dating site. |

There's definitely more options for where to go on a date now though from simple coffee shop afternoon meets to activities such as escape rooms, axe throwing even pottery decorating. There's so much more out there than just an evening meal. |
