Lots of swooning reports about the effect on the economy from Taylor Swift concerts as if this is a positive thing....it's not really because a large proportion of it is from people being ripped off by hotels increasing prices by 8000% !!! It was reported on news last night as if this was acceptable. This doesn't benefit the economy at all just extremely greedy hotel owners. |

I briefly heard a representative from an hotel saying it costs more at full occupancy.
I don't know if this is true, maybe they price rooms for a certain percentage occupancy or maybe she was taking us for fools |

Everything is a rip off.
I see people desperately looking for tickets, offering up to £5,000 each to take their daughters who are “swifties” 
Fuck that. I paid £200 to see Madonna. MADONNA and that is as far as i’ll go… I forced myself to listen to a few of this TS girl songs while I was getting ready yesterday and yep, I still don’t get the hype.

Event pricing, happens all the time, if there is something going on in the area and they know demand will be high, prices will increase, same as Tuesday and Wednesdays, tend to be the busier nights for hotels in the week, so prices will be higher, especially when only a few rooms are left.
I get calls when I'm at work and something going on around the area and no one has made bookings as they didn't think to book, they ask if we have rooms and I say "no, fully booked I'm afraid" and they act surprised and always say "are you sure?"....I can see the computer says we are full, I've checked almost everyone in, unless we have a floor I don't know about, then yes, I am absolutely sure! |

I work in Wembley, hotels take the piss but so do most businesses. Box park stop the lunch deals, the fast food joints whack prices up, parking doubles in price. Not to mention the price of merchandise £120 for a hoody |

Our daughter got tickets to see TS. I was thrilled on her behalf, I havent seen her so excited since she was a small child.
She spent money on tickets, she has friends who spend the equivalent on alcohol over a weekend |

I wanted a Harry Styles one but I wasn't paying upwards of £70, Amazon was where it was at for me, £30 thank you! |

The price of going to see a big artist is getting ridiculous.
I paid £400 for two tickets in the seats to see ACDC at Wembley, stick on another £200 for an airbnb within walking distance of the venue. Plus food and drink.
Download festival is ridiculously over priced, I remember when it was £50 for the whole weekend plus camping and now they even charge extra for that. It's certainly priced me out of going again |

I guess it benefits some smaller independent hotels but does it benefit the economy overall? No because Taylor Swift is an import (US Export)
Most of the money spent is from the UK tax payers and then leaves the UK, & that includes tickets, merch, record sales & money spent on many of the bigger hotels that use event based pricing.

Generally I prefer to spend money on experiences than stuff. I took my children to see Taylor Swift in Wembley 11 or 12 years ago for the summertime Ball, my God it broke the bank and I didn’t have a lot of money at the time but it’s created a memory that is priceless |

supply and demand much as we hate it its here to stay ,I mean school holidays double the price ,beer £7.50 a pint ,a one way flight from the canary islands to UK £400 ,a meal a basic meal in a pub £15 ,M&S meals no rice £5.49 . |

When it was announced Liverpool would stand in as hosts for eurovision a heap of hotels cancelled the bookings they had for that weekend and immediately relisted at hugely inflated prices.

As an aside I noticed a huge difference in Liverpool the weekend Taylor Swift played Anfield.
The city was busier than I've seen it in a few years, lots of American and European tourists spent a few days here and it generally felt like some money was being spent.
Yes, a chunk of that money was spent with multinationals, but there were some local businesses and independents cashing in too.
I enjoyed the vibe, even if I'm not the target market for it! |

My original point was about the ignorance of economics from Mainstream Media. Reporting rip offs as if it was a positive thing. I doubt everyone who gas been overcharged can actually afford it and will have got into debt (probably vua credit cards) to pay inflated prices.

Who has been overcharged?
People want something, a gig ticket or a holiday, whatever. They look up the price, they either think, “fuck that” and pass or they think “ok, I want that” and pay the asking price.
It’s up to the individual to make the decision on whether it’s worth it to them, if you decide to pay you are contributing to maintaining the market at that price, so no use bellyaching about it. |

When you think that liveaid was only £5 ticket price and £20 donation. It's Ticketmaster that's the biggest problem and many bands won't play Ticketmaster venues. |

Tried to get tickets for Pink and for Taylor - relatively easy - until I looked into hotels (would've needed 2 nights) cheapest (miles away so would've had extra uber costs) was a crappy b and b in some dog awful back water. Their attic room. 2 single beds £350 per person per night. I. Think. Not! |

I had exactly the same regarding hotel prices when I took my daughter to see Harry Styles in Edinburgh last year, coupled with the fact it was May bank holiday weekend the prices were extortionate |

Of course we can see that this happens but these visitors will still spend money in other parts of the local area while visiting.
It has to still have some effect on other business too. |
