ChatGPT users in the UK were left puzzled as the chatbot has started responding in Welsh to English-language queries. The unexpected glitch is the latest example of how the development of artificial intelligence systems can lead to unforeseen issues.

Or

is Chat BPT / AI cleverer than we think ?

'Welsh is of this soil, this island, the senior language of the men of Britain; Welsh is beautiful.' JRR Tolkien

Maybe it was just trying to clear its throat?

Hmmm...did Tolkien not draw inspiration from Welsh/Gaelic for his words of Elvish language?

You are Correct. As a boy, Tolkien lived near a railway station in Birmingham, where Welsh words appeared magically into his life. He later said, ‘I heard it coming out of the west, it struck me in the names on coal trucks and drawing nearer it flickered past on station-signs, a flash of strange spelling and a hint of a language old and yet alive. It pierced my linguistic heart.’

He later used Welsh in his novels as the foundation of one of the Elvish languages, Sindarin.

I love Tolkiens work. His writing is so immersive. It draws you in so deeply it almost creates reality from the surreal.

Agree, Loved Tolkien and CS Lewis' works as a teen, both had a profound effect and sowed a seed of love for the English Language, and writing as it should be, I loved to get completely 'lost' in those books / other worlds, if just for a few hours.

On that basis, I'm definitely mixed origins

I think the Venn diagram of people who claim they're indigenous, and those who actually care about indigenous concerns is... two very separate circles.

I'm probably predominantly indigenous to the British Isles, but as part of the diaspora. But the people who like to tell me this are... not people I want to associate with.
