"Just seen someone claim Jesus Christ was born in 4BC.
what's made you chuckle on the interwebs today?"
That's... that's not stupid
The BC/AD (or BCE/CE) distinction is based on one idea of when Jesus was born, hence "before Christ".
Records and all that jazz are a bit fuzzy/ destroyed/ confabulated in that era (it's a problem for most periods of history) so the exact dates are usually a bit ish.
4BCE is, to the extent I'm aware, a pretty standard approximation these days. |

What are they protesting against? Do they still think the country is in lockdown?"
Didn't bother paying much attention but seemed to imply it was all fake |

The primary grifters got an extraordinary boost in popularity and revenue in 2020/1, and want that to continue, so they keep trying to push the feeling that many of us had at that time of helplessness, despair and anger. That shit sells. And people want it, for whatever perverse reason. |

The date of 1 AD or CE (there was no conceptof 0 BC in those days) was set well over a thousand years ago and they didn't have the historical information we have now. One of the gospels talks about the the governor of where Jesus was said to have been born. It has been established he was dead by 1 AD so the time being written about was several years before that.
4 BC isn't a joke. It just sounds funny, but when you consider 1 AD was chosen as an estimate it makes sense. Other dates have also been suggested but I'm unaware of any scholars who think it was as late as 1 AD. |
