How attentive are you?

I was listening to an interesting program about how attentive one is, they talked about a study where the findings was that nowadays people in general are less attentive, one of the reasons was because of all the technology, like phones, tv and radio, people are more glued to their devices than ever before and are forgetting the surroundings around them of who are talking to them.
They mentioned that the longer it takes for you to noticed that someone is talking to you, the less attentive are you, they said that if it takes a minute or more it is not good and you should try and work on it to be more attentive.
They also added what one can do to be more attentive is when a friend or family is tying to talk to you, give them your full attention with no distractions, turn off or turn down tv and radios.
This made me wondering how attentive are you, how quick or long time do you think it take for you to notice someone is talking to you? For me, even if I am into a thing, like on my device.I notice the person straight away |

Sorry, did you say something OP.. lol..
But yes, I agree with that in that People are spending too much time glued to devices and ignoring what/who's around.
If I'm with someone it's nothing on (electrical) unless it's a film and that gets paused/muted.. |

If I’m sat in the house and we’re not doing anything I will be on my phone but if we put a film on or we’re eating or doing any sort of thing together as a family I won’t even glance at it. The same goes for if I’m out and about, my phone stays in my pocket. |

"When I’m physically next to somebody, my phone stays in my bag, they have my full attention, I’m really crap at being attentive over the phone though" Hi _mmaleia, that is good, the phone stays in the bag, so they have the full attention too |

"If someone is talking at me for a minute or more without realising I'm not aware of them, maybe they need to work on their attentiveness."
😂 Brilliant.
In answer to your question OP. I can be deeply focused, when someone has my attention it is often full attention. However, if it is elsewhere then it can take quite a bit to get it in the first instance. |

Very!
The only time I pretend I'm not is if it's someone I don't want to see or speak too, I'll use my phone as an excuse to be elsewhere or "late for an appointment" got to run style excuse . 🤣 |

If I'm deeply engrossed in something I probably won't realise someone is talking to me. If someone can see that I'm reading a book, my phone, tablet etc it doesn't hurt for them to say my name so I know they're speaking to me.
I dislike it if people have ear things in when they *know* they need to interact, in a shop for instance. It's rude. The same goes for if you're trying to talk to someone and you see their eyes drift towards their phone or the TV. It tells me they're not interested in me and what I'm saying. I often just stop talking in those instances.
Incidentally it doesn't make any difference if I'm reading an actual book or an ebook I'm still reading.

If I’m reading I’m not “doing nothing” they’re interrupting.
I’m a lot more forgiving on people who wear headphones. They’re often used by people with anxiety or neurodivergent folks to block out sounds and prevent sensory overload.

"I like to say no phones allowed in the bedroom or when on a meet. There are exceptions to this as I will check it incase my daughters need me but on the whole the phone is away
" That is good you say no phones in those places, yes, there are exceptions too |

I despise ignorance and never have my phone out when have company, also now at the point of refusing to socialise with those always on their phone even family not long ago we finished work early and went for some good and the whole time my exes son (who still lives abs works with me) was on his phone we ate in silence told him he’s an ignorant cunt and will be the last time I do anything out of work with him, another mate used to go to one extreme to the other for 5 minutes you couldn’t get a word in then next 5 you get no response as was buried in his phone stopped inviting him over after a few times of that phones have their uses but I mostly wish they were never invented |

If I'm with friend and family my phone isn't in my hand, maybe the occasional glance to check on the kids but otherwise whoever I'm with has my attention.
If someone was talking at me while I was obviously on my phone without gaining my attention 1st I'd be concerned about their attentiveness.

The number of times blokes look at my profile and then ask for face pics...
There are a couple on my public pics but they get so distracted by my tits and arse they are not paying attention...
How do I swap the position order of my pics? Admittedly the face pics are at the end... |

"It’s a bugbear of mine.
I went for a meal once and the chap I was with was scrolling through WhatsApp group chat messages.
Up until then I hadn’t realised I was so boring "
And to answer the question. If I’m with someone I’m with them. I might get my phone out to check occasionally (I do have kids under 16 and a doddery mum) and maybe to take photos. That’s it! |

Don’t be so hard on yourself
Also, do you have a tissue with you, you appear to have some sort of boggie hanging out your nose. |

Its challenging for me (Liz) as I have a very short attention span and Im very prone to distraction. But I try, and actually can be a bit ocd at times too so it goes both ways.
Like to read profiles, and chat to get to know someone better before a meet so we have some idea of what to expect. During a meet we like to stay visitor focussed. Politeness costs nothing. And its nice to keep a good reputation going too of course. |

I'm so attentive that a few nights ago I fell asleep while the person laying next me was talking to me. Oops! I think I've been forgiven...well, I hope I have 🙏😘 |
