Sorry Warrington is out of my area, but as a rule with electronic diagnosis the machines are pretty controlled so you will need a main dealer. once the fault has been identified it's a black box swap out in 99% of electrical faults. |

You can buy diagnostic code readers on eBay for around £20 (or if you drive an Alfa free software is available).
Sorry to hear you're still having trouble, what's it doing now? |

"so whats wrong with it ? will it not start , plumes of white smoke.....oil and water clear but won't start"
On a modern car it could be anything which is why I refuse to buy a car that I cannot diagnose and then fix.

Does the oil look like it has mayonnaise in it? Does the water have a nasty layer of scum and oil on it? White smoke can mean head gasket failiure and the two.things above are the classic signs.
Because its a diesel I'd certainly be looking at the EGR valve, mass airflow sensor (also called a MAF) as when these fail it can cause all kinds of issues, it can run without either but it won't be right. If the EGR valve is jammed oped (very common) it over cools the combustion chambers and also dumps oil into.the turbo and white smoke is another classic sign of turbo failiure.
What make and model of car is it? |

Definitely worth investigating the EGR valve, they get jammed up with soot and cause all kinds of running problems. More often than not they just require cleaning with carb cleaner.
Do a google search and see if you can find a specific forum website for Mazda's. Often there are people on those sites that have had the same problem and know the best fixes, its what I do with my Alfa and I've not had an issue I couldn't sort myself yet. |

Good advice, sounds like it could be a sensor, EGR or Mass Airflow Valve, not automatically a replacement ECU (expensive). |

In my experience its incredibly rare to need to change an ecu and if people have done it the problem is often still there. You also need to understand that most of the time its not just the ecu, you also need to replace all the keys, locks and ignition barrels.
My money is on a sensor somewhere causing an issue. Afterthe EGR I'd look at the lamda sensors . |

hi is it diesel engine
yes it's diesel"
when its cold the most obvious thing is glow plugs, diesel engines will not start without heat, engines have glowplugs to warm engine befor starting, white smoke means loads of unburnt fuel, start there befor u start messing with black box and valves ect |

Best thing to do and the cheapest is to take it to formula one auto centres as they do free diagnostic if you can't drive it join the aa it's only 30 odd pounds and as a woman you should be a member in case it breaks down with kids in
Then get them to look at it.
Tbh I would say without looking at it turbo over heating dues to sticking egr valve which causes the oil seal to burn out ..
Oil enters cylinders and it burns white smoke, whichever way it needs to be looked at by a mechanic

Hi. Im in Warrington and i have a garage, as its a Mazda 6 I would hazard a guess its the dpf maybe trying to regenerate, either way I have Mazda IDS diagnostic equipment to confirm your problem. what you should do with a matter of urgency is make sure the oil hasn't risen too much up the dipstick as it can run on its own oil and rev up till it explodes and there is nothing you will be able to do about it If you need my help private message me.

The only way to stop a runaway is to stall it, but its not easy. Classic sign of turbo failure...white smoke and over running.
To the op, do you mainly do short journeys?
People but diesels thinking they will save money but it will only really benefit if you get some long distances in. The DPF (diesel particulate filter) needs to regenerate and this can only happen ona good journey if you stop mid cycle then it will fail, it will only try to do it 10 times before it gives up and then you will get problems until you get it to a dealer and they do a forced regen. A new DPF will cost between £600 and £2000. But there are alternative solutions that are less costly... |

Air flow problem can cause heavy smoke, check your air pipes if you have a split in a pipe after the air flow sensor, the engine will be getting more air than the sensor is detecting, it could be something as that |

Good point. It could be something simple like a split turbo hose/pipe or a blocked breather pipe. |
