Jump to: Newest in thread
we were hoping to spend a few days in one of the two places with a sea view but becuse of school hols and good weather everything is sky high inc airbnb
TBH, Airbnb has always been not as attractive cost wise
Fav hotel is prem in with sea view - charging over 125 when i looked with a sea view, a night - outside children's hols, about 70 quid
we like the Premier Inn places as clean, options for breakfast and diner and nice and clean and no pets - still looking -
pref eastbourne as lovely promenaded and family, couples orintated |

I'm not really sure what you were expecting OP. Dorset has always been expensive! It's the south coast! We have amazing beaches. It's also expensive to live here, so paying £100+ per night is pretty much the norm! |

Hope you find somewhere, but £125 for a room for with a sea view, in the peak of summer, doesn't seem that unreasonable.
That prices are higher during school holidays is not new, though I feel for the families that have to face that premium. |

"You can stay at mine I have a sea view ."
Thank you but no thanks as you are not a formal Airbnb etc
I've been looking this mroning and making a list of places I like or dislike, all helpful - and the weather outlook has improved so may bite the bullet for tomorrow and day after
I found TripAdvisor the best and then look at booking/com as if the hotel is on their site as well, their star ratings and easy to follow graph re what hotel is like is gom, imo |

"Just me thinking 125 with sea view not bad a deal in the school hols?"
People are paying 70 a night for a yurt in a field around here. 125 with all facilities and sea view doesn’t sound so bad against that. |

See if there's any option to earn cashback via your booking site, typically from top cashback or quidco, once you know what you want to book. Don't choose them based on predicted cashback, as it's never guaranteed. |

"Just me thinking 125 with sea view not bad a deal in the school hols?
Nope. In this area people would snatch your hand off at that price"
That's both hands gone in the space of seconds |

You should be so lucky.... Have you considered Rhyl, it might be cheaper.
Err, I've just checked. Rhyl on sea front with views over the wind farm and people walking along the prom with Jack Daniels for company is actually sold out for August.
Next best is Rhuddlan with views of KFC, ALDI and a dual carriageway for about £120 for a family room.
The closest I can find here to Eastbourne is Llandudno. That's no sea view but is handy for the town centre. £144.
To be fair if Eastbourne is about £120 or so per night for a family room, then I'm afraid that is quite a good price! |

I've been looking at Borunemouth - not sure if an event there but two nights from tomorrow 512 for basic room, no cancellations
i think i will hold off but still looking at eastbourne - some B&B's about 15/20 mins from pier - they are cheap 85/100 a night inc full english - two i have seen and very good reviews and very clean - i am just unsure re B&B's and it will be almost impossible to invite a guy over - but thinking about it -
folkstone as suggested by 2 others here, had a look, not great promenade imo - britighton too packed and imo only ok for a day visit |

"I'm often in a Prem for work, £125 is sometimes a reasonable price for a room in Northampton, on an industrial estate, next to a busy A-road, with a view of the loading bay of Poundstretcher "
It might be worth your work asking premier inn about corporate rates. It is often only necessary to have a VAT number and a letterhead to be approved for corporate rates.
The last time I was at a motorway station motel, I remember clearly.
I was out of driving time and had the choice of either kipping on the back row of an empty bus (which would be illegal) or booking into the motel.
At reception in front of me was a corporate customer of the motel. Bearing in mind this was 8pm.
The conversation went like this
Corporate customer:- "Hi, we've got 3 rooms booked for tonight, but we only need 2."
Motel worker:- "That's fine, you are a corporate customer so I can cancel 1 room immediately for free and you won't be charged for it. For the other 2 rooms, that will be £70 please. That's your corporate rate of £35 per room per night."
I got to the counter and the conversation went like this
ME "Hi, I'd like a room for 1 night tonight please"
Motel worker "Yes Sir, I can see that we can accommodate you. We have just 1 room left. Would you like me to book that out to you?"
Me (I've little choice) "Ooh, yes please"
Motel worker "Certainly Sir, that will be £85 please. Are you paying cash or card? Please be aware that if paying by card we need to receive confirmation of payment before releasing the room key to you."
Since I was staying over "on expenses" I didn't give much of a monkeys and paid cash.
However, why on earth didn't the company I was working for take the simple step of applying for corporate rates. After all, there's only 2 big and 1 diddly motel chain. Travelodge, Premier and Days Inn. |

The majority of places to rest thy head are costly but like everything else during school breaks the demand is there to increase prices 🤷🏽♂️
Only two choices really 🤔
1. Suck it up
2. Don’t go
Sad but true but you’re not alone op 🤷🏽♂️ |

That’s on a corporate account- we book in excess of a thousand nights a year |

If sea view is not a deal breaker, check out The Lamb Inn, Eastbourne, stayed there a few of weeks ago.
Lovely traditional pub, great food, easy parking & about 15/20 minute walk to the seafront, around £80 - £100 per night depending on dates |
