Why are we all sticking needles in our faces/bodies/ears? What made the first person do it? And why do you do it, what do you remember that made you think THATS COOL!!!!
Aaand what’s the most painful piercing you had and where was it?

Anything and everything is a personal choice.
From looks that include tattoos, piercings, hair cuts, hair colour, clothes we wear etc
I will never question anyone else’s choices at all, why would I, the clue for me is in the name “personal choice”, it’s personal to them
I don’t know fact but I would imagine that piercings go back thousands of years and some were for ceremonial or status within a community |

"My nipple piercings ( had both done at the same time by my husband 1) were pretty painful!
🤣🤣🤣
"
I bet they really really hurt too. That’s what puts me off getting them. That and the healing time 😘 |

Once they were done it was OK , healing took ages and unfortunately I had to take one of them out in January because it caused Granulomatous Mastitis which developed into an abscess and cellulitis twice.... wound up in a &e even at one point needing intravenous antibiotics!🤣

By your husband? …..was it ….a game? ….did you lose? "
Yes indeed!: I'd been toying with the idea for ages he had a proper kit so I said fuck it one evening after work and got him to do them 🤣🤣 |

I was in primary school when I got my ears done, so I can't even remember why. Maybe it seemed cool and grownup?
I've had my nose done on 3 separate occasions. My body just rejected it, so I gave up.

Wasn't allowed piercings as a kid, had my lobes done when I was 17. Most painful was the cartilage piercing done when I was 18 in a hairdressers with a gun. Admittedly I didn't know better at the time. Just wouldn't heal properly still got a lump on my ear because of it. |

I've never had one done because I thought they looked cool, more because they're pretty and I like how they look.
None hurt really, more a heightened sensation. Nipple I didn't realise he'd done it, septum was an odd feeling but quickly over with.
They're all healed now and I like that I can choose to wear them or not. |

My Dad wouldn't let me pierce my ears like other kids.
He told me it's for pigs and cows
I took that on board and grew to find piercings repugnant for some time.
My views changed as I matured and my views became my own.
When I was about 30 I finally got my ears pierced. All it meant to me then was that the wearing of earrings isn't painful.
I view piercings for what they are - human adornment, expression , art, statement. A way that someone wishes to look , the way they want you to see them.
Some of them are beautiful and some not so beautiful.
Taken to the extreme( like tiger faces, cutting , entire facial and bodily spiking ) I do believe they show psychological illness or at least difference; definitely detachment from mainstream and a desire to be non conformist ( which I cannot criticise one iota )

All the piercings I've had done were always because I wanted them, not to follow some trend going around.
Nipples stung a bit but didn't hurt at the time.
Chest piercing was probably the weirdest feeling one I've had done, but again wasn't painful as I have a super high pain threshold. |

Boo. If piercing wasn't a trend or even around anywhere in the world..... what would you have done to your body then ?
I'm genuinely curious? |

I’m sure someone somewhere would’ve come up with the idea. |

Does this mean you wouldn't like my labia piercings Woody?
The septum was by far the most painful one for me. The only time I've ever had a whitey for a piercing, and I've had a lot.
I think back in the day I used to see my piercer more as a sort of therapy whenever I was stressed. I haven't needed to in a long time with having had an actual sadist on call and learning to play with needles and staples at home. But I may go get something pierced soon.
I like the shiny. I like the experience. I'm not particularly fussed if people think it's cool or not. The way I look is for me 💜 |

I really love accessorised beautified bodies on others, piercing or non piercing jewelry , I think it’s hot. I like metals and like them
Being part of my body
Excluding my ears I have 6 and always looking for new ideas |

I had a whitey on my nipple, against his advice I went up 2 gauges.
He warned me it would hurt but fuck I’ve never known pain like that, the moment it crunched through within seconds it was like I’d been in a shower, completely soaked almost lost consciousness but totally worth it I love the big chunk of metal in my nipple |

It would need to be a "thing" in the world. Otherwise, who would I get to pierce me?
I'm definitely not doing a home DIY jobbie on myself.
When I said not following a trend , I meant I had a few of mine done long before they were popular on all the social media places and in fashion trends online etc. I didn't see them and go running off to have them done.
As an example I have an inner ear piercing to reduce migraine issues, that was recommended to me via a hospital appointment and I've had mine for ages now. They've probably only become more popular in the past few years online.
I'd still have piercings even if unpopular.

I had my ear pierced in my rebellious teenage years 😎
My brother had his done and thought it looked cool, but the novelty kind of wore off for me. I think the hole's closed up now. |

Cheers Boo. I got that you weren't following trends but it got me thinking that if there was no such thing as piercings ( and no one invented it for the sake of this Q )
What MIGHT you have done to decorate your body in a way you wanted ? |

I have many piercings, some of them for the 2nd time (I used to have iron cross in each nip, now it’s only single), but from far the worst piercing I’ve ever had to the point of almost making me sick was the Christina. I also have the clit piercing and it did not hurt at all compared to that one. I ended up taking it off as it was too much. |
