Change of plan because of the recent ‘events’

Hey All, I guess I was just curious about how the recent ‘events’ (and I’m using that term to be impartial but it’s closer and would be more apt to use the world violence) has impacted peoples plans.

So in my personal/work life, I usually work in London and was meant to be there today, but I’ve been supported in WFH. So it has affected that part of my life.

In my fab life, I was gonna go to a club but I’m 50/50 just in case it all kicks off. Maybe not in the club but on the way there or after.

I’m wondering has anyone been affected and in what way? X

Not affecting me but know a couple of local kink socials have been cancelled due to concerns.

I usually go to the cinema in Derby or Leics or Tamworth or Loughborough and won’t be doing that in the evenings now until things calm down.

I haven't been affected directly but my friend works at one of the hospitals at birmingham and said it took her close to an hour to get home the other day because their were riots in the area.

We’ve closed one office and are mainly from home at the moment and keeping a close eye as potential target. It’s bloody awful right now.

We had notification that the office was still open but to wfh if possible and to not participate in counter protests

A charity i work with had to close their doors and have lost income which won't be recoverable. They are already om the brink of closure, so I'm sure this will tip the balance 😑

I've driven home tonight and gone past police officers in riot gear

There are a huge amount of warnings floating around about today and maybe that’s part of the plan, to spread discord and worry.

This reminds me of the riots about 15 years ago

That's so sad. I hope the charity manage to pull through. 😥

I drove past 20 riot vans heading northbound on the M6.

Please stay safe everyone.

I need to find that rant thread - atm i literally feel that every thing that is fucked up with the UK is due to middle aged white men

I did fortunately have a great experience today that restored a little faith, volunteering with around 20 white middle-aged plus men

I’m not changing any of my plans at the minute because it hasn’t started in Newcastle… yet. There’s rumours floating around of “protests” tonight and I’ll see how that unfolds before changing plans for the safety of me and my family.

I tend to agree with you about the middle aged white men thing. But then that’s always been the case

Enjoy!

There's little going on round here. One of the few benefits of living in the middle of nowhere.

And I agree with the 'middle aged white men' comment. The sad thing is these people are passing on their attitudes to their sons (and daughters). There's a whole new generation of chios on shoulders now that haven't a clue how to think cognitively because social media and their parents are their sole influences and they've never stepped out of those echo chambers.

Sad times.

I can work from home and I am going to until this calms down a bit. I'm worried about being caught by a group of thugs, I can only imagine what it feels like for anyone from the BAME community. Awful.

I have several friends with businesses right at where one of the race-hate riots is planned for tonight. They've had to close for the day and board up their windows.

My friends wife, recently got her family reunification visa. She is from Pakistan, he similar to me was born here of Pakistani descent. She has only been here 4 months and while she studies for a medical licence, has passed her driving test and got employment with a housing association in Birmingham.

Yesterday as she drove in to her office, someone threw acid on her car.

It's not changed my plans significantly. I worked from home and that's not changed. The biggest change is that I was meant to be out for dinner tonight with friends, but we've postponed until the atmosphere is less febrile.

Mentally it's had a huge impact on me. I'm scared for friends' safety and that is making me feel helpless, depressed and extremely angry.

It makes me utterly sick to the stomach watching those fascist thugs looting, burning, trashing communities and threatening people. It's like Oswald Moseley's black shirts all over again - disgusting. Morons the lot of them and they're bloody everywhere, normalising their putrid hatred and division as if it's even remotely reasonable. I even saw one female member of this forum on another thread defending their violence saying "people have had enough". It was perfectly clear she meant enough of people with different skin colour or ways of life... it's fucking bullshit!

Well I’ve not been allowed to travel for work. Which is shit. It’s completely taking over my work life. And I’ve avoided making plans with anyone so I don’t have to travel. But I got to see my partner this weekend and my fiancé and I are chilling. So yeah.

Tbh it’s just shit. Proper shit.

It hasn't changed anything for me currently and like someone else I'll be staying the next few days in a field in the middle of nowhere.

But something that this thread has just triggered I'm meant to be staying in a hotel next weekend which I was told last year was being used to house asylum seekers. I'm assuming that as it's accepting paying guests so to speak that it is no longer and thus wouldn't be a target especially being that it is in a city centre location.

We got sent home early due to threats/rumours circulating. Expecting to be told to WFH tomorrow.

Some colleagues from targeted groups have been terrified and went home even earlier.

The whole thing stinks 🤬

No, it's not affected me at all (and yo be honest, the bits of London I've been in show no signs of anything brewing).

I've only been affected by the stark reminder that these knuckle draggers walk among us, which is depressing.

For certain people, my name is long.and foreign sounding..(scary sounding, you could say.)

I normally give people a nickname version to call me when I meet them.

After a few months, I'll tell them my full name. I feel it's more digestible that way.

Years ago, a colleague I worked closely with for about a year saw my name on some paperwork and went.." Oh..I know your name now.".

I had travel plans that I considered cancelling but decided to leave early and hope for the best. Glad I did as everything was empty and just like a normal day. It's quiet where I am but there's tension where I live so glad I'm out the way for a few days.
