What's the worst pain you've ever felt?

1. Shingles felt like I was being burned for 2 days. A bit like cigarettes are being put out on your skin.
2. Back pain is bad. After multiple spine surgeries, for the years previously before the procedures, it could feel like both your legs are broken; snapped even.
3. Gallstones are super painful. For me, it felt like a gunshot wound. Attacks would last for 6 or 7 hours and be completely debilitating.
4. Then there's emotional trauma. This might be the worst in someways.
Like if you've experienced someone you're looking after, slowly deteriorating until they're gone.
-You'd think that the prolonged time frame would make it easier to come to terms with.
But I found it doesn't.
This is a happy thread, I realise. |

1. Nerve pain in my back and leg (totally unmedicated because I was pregnant)
2. Childbirth (plus the last 8wks of the pregnancy)
3. The psychological consequences of dealing with the above two things causing my disability
4. Endometriosis
5. Post fundoplication surgery recovery

Breaking my back was incredibly painful
Being shot was a bit of a nip
But getting a gut infection but not knowing about it until after it had turned gangrenous after a few months was, I think, the worst |

Birthing child No.1.
72 bloody hours of it.
Although that was nothing compared to the emotional pain of said child going through a year long MH crisis and needing constant supervision as he was eying up the paracetamol.

Some awful ailments described already. I can relate with the shingles , had that up the left side of my body and face about 10 years ago.
Having my broken leg pulled straight to set it in a cast was pretty ouchie as well but my all time top number 1 pain so far has to be pancreatitis.
Holy moly, that was a good one and just wouldn’t let up for a week despite regular morphine. I’ll be happy if I never have to feel that again |

I had a bad fall skiing. Did a crazy jump and landed on my back. I couldn't breathe for a tiny bit (no obviously I didn't die!). But thought I'm going to die here, in front of all these people having a drink outside. Luckily nothing serious, just had to stay in bed for a while. |

Physically, caesarian sections and the labour prior to this, arthritis...I could go on. But I won't. |

I feel very lucky that I haven't experienced some of the above. Mine seems a bit first world problems by comparison but...
I had an air bubble in a filling. Whenever I went in a plane, the expanding air during decent would press on the nerve. It was so bad that I wanted to smash my own teeth in with a hammer.

"Caesareans and Cholecystitis
"
I had gallbladder surgery earlier in the week. Had to back to a&e though shortly after as I was finding difficult to breathe.
Got discharged on Friday, but still feeling I can't inhale very deeply. So I'm lying down as I type this as it feels slightly more comfortable.
I may need a sinus procedure in a few months which requires drilling in spaces in the skull.
A friend of mine of mine said he wants to put a curtain around me and shoot me when he next sees me as it's the humane thing to do..

Toothache for me, had impacted wisdom teeth and spent the occasional night banging my face against a wall, regular over the counter painkillers wouldn’t touch it. I’ll never forget the relief I felt after I procured a couple of 30mg codeine tablets from a friend of a friend. |

"A burst eardrum was more painful than childbirth for me! Horrendous pain! X"
I have a hearing and nose issue I'm getting treated for. One of numerous health issues I have. ( -I'm like bionic man or RoboCop as this point)
The ent surgeon grabbed the biggest needle and pierced through my eardrum with it. It was something he had to try to relieve pressure. No anaesthetic.
He wanted to do the other side but I told him I wouldn't be able to make it back.
-I'd walked into the hospital for that appointment.. |

Corneal laceration. My then 3 year old poked my eye with her fingernail. Absolute agony. Made worse by also having a newborn, so every time I got woken up in the night my dry eyes opened and pulled the scab off. Then a few months later it got infected. I spent the night screaming into my pillow. 6 years on I still sleep with paracetamol next to my bed as occasionally it still hurts. It's like a hot poker in the eye. |

Can't decide between dislocated shoulder or appendicitis.
But the doctor was a woman and she said from her own experience a dislocated shoulder was more painful than childbirth so I'll go with that. |

Reading some of the political threads on here.
But beyond that - clearly minor compared to some - having a dislocated big toe pulled back into place.
I was given gas and air. How women give birth on that shit I'll never know. |

I gave birth 2x without it because I had one puff during birth #1, hated the feeling of being d*unk and did the whole thing with just a TENS machine instead. The second one was a lot worse |

When my disc was broken (and they had to drill it out) I was taking morphine and cannabis oil that I sourced illegally..and still nothing really touched the pain I found.
Just made me tired..
Standing on a stonefish is meant to be extremely painful.
It's a creature that's camouflaged like a rock. It shoots nerve poison into your foot and people have been known to try to amputate their leg after.

Physical pain, gallstones. Gastric surgery, tonsillectomy, tooth removal was a freaking breeze compared to a blocked bile duct.
Emotional pain: either the self harm day post three days off work whilst on warning at work, or the death of my beloved Nanna... Informing my (now) ex-husband our marriage was over want exactly a walk in the park, either... |

All pretty bad stuff, people.
But nowhere near as bad as burning your ballsack with veet while getting ready for a meet. Nothing helps. Not water, moisturiser, prayer.
To this day mine has a charming red hue, best observed in the teabag pose.
And for the win there was the emotional trauma of turning down a proper hottie with what appeared to be a lame excuse. |

I had an abscess in my upper jaw once. That was the most pain I’ve ever known, and all the pain killers I had couldn’t prevent me curling up on the sofa, crying like a baby, holding my head in my hands because I could not escape it……. |

Had a new knee last year.
No matter how many pain killers they give you, there is no escaping from that level of pain.
That said, twinged my back yesterday and it's only just easing up now, 24 hours on

"The few years prior to having large intestine removed when the colitis got really bad and nothing was working the stomach pains were so bad they would often make me physically sick with the pain "
Did you have gas pumped into the abdomen area for the procedures/operations?
Has anyone had this?
- I think they do it for quite a number of procedures for organs linked to the digestive system, or hernias and some gynecological procedures etc.
I'm finding it difficult to take in air and inhale because of it.. because there is loads of trapped air in you, your diaphragm only expands halfway and it feels you're breathing at 50 %.
I spoke to a friend of mine thats a doctor yesterday evening, he's not a surgeon but he said it might take a week or 2 for the carbon dioxide (I think that's the gas they use)to be dissolved into your bloodstream and escape from your system.
Wondering what others that have experienced it make of it. |

As an early teen. While out on a school trip. Got my tongue stuck in a (glass) bottle of .
Have you ever tried to draw attention to a problem you have, and wished the whole world, would swallow you up?
I think a teacher spotted the difficulty I was in, and sorted me out. Not sure how though. Can't remember. As, I couldn't speak and the pain of the bottle pulling on my tounge, was far from pleasant. |
