Is your gut feeling about something or someone normally correct?

Have you ever got it wrong?

Does that then make you question where you’ve trusted that initial feeling before?

Nine times out of ten my gut feeling has been spot on even when so many others have disagreed.

It's not infallible though and there have been times I have been wrong but thankfully not totally blindsided.

Therefore I will always trust my gut.

Next Door

I've ignored my gut feeling previously and I got burnt badly.

So now trust it, and I've been ok.

Not sure if it's a gut feeling or my guard is up more.

Absolutely trust your gut. The head can be changed. Your gut is always the first feeling

Sometimes, I ignore that gut feeling.

I don't think that has ever worked out well for me.

I would say I'm rarely wrong. But I'm not sure if that's a self fulfilling prophecy. Because my gut feeling is off about someone am I looking for reasons to justify that?

A gut feeling doesn’t always have to be negative. You can have a really good feeling about something and for it to work out fantastically well

I’ve also experienced the negative side in a previous relationship and I really should have listened to it

I got it wrong about my ex, I thought she really cared but it turned out she didn't. My gut feeling was she was the one, I gave up everything for her, sadly I couldn't have been more wrong I meant nothing to her.

Now I trust nothing, I've just built higher barriers.

Massive believer in gut feeling and go with it almost all the time. My view is that it is sub-consciously drawing on all your years of experiences, some direct, others via osmosis.

Invariably, the instinct is right. Even works when getting approached on here and we’re getting quicker at spotting the fakes / fantasists.

I'd say that when I get a feeling about how something is going to go, it's generally quite accurate.

That said, ADHD causes me to mentally run through simulations of upcoming events in pretty much every configuration they could possibly go, and when brain weasels are particularly loud my hypothetical scenarios skew towards the disastrous, so that can inadvertently colour my instincts.

No I’ve often got it wrong. I tend to look for the best in people. Then they show me the worst.

Think gut feeling is a load of ballix. People just remember when it was correct. But it is nothing more than a feeling. Means nothing at all.

Honestly? In retrospect it's incredibly easy to say oh I had a gut feeling about this situation and thought this.

I do think we can have strong feelings about something and we should avoid/do something if those feelings are present.

I don't think I'm the best at it... I'm a tad optimistic when it comes to people - even when I know something isn't right and my friends tell me so I'll ignore it out of misguided hope until pushed too far and then that's it. Done.

If i have a "gut feeling" about someone I never trust it 100%. But I'll question them and read their body language and facial expressions.

Yeah I have adhd and yes my brain comes up with several senerios and I come up with the level of probability on each one. Some call it the adhd "sixth sense" or maybe I'm just a cynical bastard

I often get a gut feeling and will avoid situations or people due to it. Because I avoid them I can't 100% claim it's right

It's reasonable information but doesn't replace rational, critical thinking, it merely is data.

I tend to go with my intuition. I feel that it's the sum of all your subconscious awareness and experience telling you something.

I do get it wrong... my gut feeling when I took my current job was that it would be a terrible company, and I'd need to look for something new while it tided me over... it's the best job I've ever had, at the best company. Lol

Yup same.

And also the dopamine junkie aspect of ADHD can sometimes cause you to like someone a lot based on one singular action. That’s a really tricky fucker to get over.

ADHD for many also results in superhuman pattern recognition. Helpful skill in a lot of situations.

Mine has proven me correct only very recently on here with a few people that can not be trusted.
