I sort of get this — I've experienced a few afternoon teas where the emphasis was on savoury and less so on the sweet and saccharine. The savoury 'dishes' were warm, umami flavoured but without being overbearing so that they still complemented the 'lesser' sweet offerings.

I must protest, Jaffa cakes have been ruined, they don't taste the way they used to. They taste far too chemically now. I hate it when they ruin the product over a search for more profits
