Smoking is a practice in which a substance is combusted and the resulting smoke is typically inhaled to be tasted and absorbed into the bloodstream of a person.
Vaping works by
Heating liquid in a small device.
Creating an aerosol (not water vapor) containing nicotine, flavoring, and other substances.
Inhaling the resulting vapor.
The vapor is produced by a battery-powered heating element that vaporizes the liquid in the cartridge.

IPersonally I wouldn't class it as smoking, but I would add it to your profile, then it's clear for everyone to see (very similar to your OP).
If you're using nicotine-free vapes it may be worth adding that too. |

It isn't smoke. But that doesn't mean it can't be an irritant.
I've put my objection to smoking and vaping in my profile text, because I have health issues with both. I'd do the same if I had an allergic or otherwise reaction to perfumes and had to ask people to consider that |

Some of the chemicals in the vapes are the same as in some perfumes... I had to stop using some of them because (like yourself) I have reactions and the reactions are not good. |

They call dry ice 'smoke machines' and they're not really smoke are they? You know what I mean?
That's why I consider vaping/smoking to pretty much be the same... They're both nicotine habits and I'd actually feel safer around a real cigarette. |

I vape and the moment I kicked the smoking habit I put I was a non smoker, I am proud of the fact I managed to kick that habit and vaping and smoking are two different things personally speaking. My breath doesn't smell rank anymore for a start (unless I've eaten garlic) and my clothes don't have that awful smell on them anymore, hence the reason I put I am a non smoker.
Now I know it's a bone of contention to those that still class it as smoking but I rather stand with a vaper and not a smoker if given the choice.
When I was meeting however, I would put something on my profile, in the wording to say I vaped, that way people can make an informed choice, maybe fab need to have a "vape" option now? |

My observation is that smoking & vaping seem vastly different to smokers/ ex-smokers, but can be similarly problematic to some non-smokers, whether there's nicotine in them or not.
I'd say it's only a problem to those who don't wish to meet smokers or vapers, so keeping it on your profile means your allowing them to avoid the incompatibility with you. Equally, anyone that doesn't care won't mind the smoker criteria & can see from your profile that you vape. |

There is this thing where someone who smoked regular cigarettes moves to vapes and then classes themselves as a: 'non smoker' (taking credit as though they kicked the habit lol); (I've heard them brag about it - showing off their great willpower!)... Whereas all they did was move onto something possibly even more addictive and hazardous for their health. Some folks are hesitant to call those people: 'non-smokers' since they are in denial that they still have a bad habit... Sooking on the same bit of plastic day in day out - constantly breathing in bacteria and various nasty chemicals.
...I suppose it's like someone going on a diet... They give up the 30 chocolate bars they usually eat in a day and for every chocolate bar they would have eaten they replace it with a bag of crisps instead and then brag about how great they are at dieting. |

Congratulations on no longer being a smoker OP, perhaps in the not too distant future you may also be able to ditch the vape.
I would do as others have suggested and say on your profile that you are now a vaper rather than a smoker.  |

Well done on quitting the smokes OP. I've just quit myself and it ain't easy.
Up until recently I vaped for years. I never thought to mention it on my profile. Thankfully my socials weren't at all put off by it. Maybe they liked the taste of Chupa Chups.....

Burning and inhaling tobacco or something else is typically smoking. Breathing vapes isn't burning anything, so should not be considered smoking.
I'd put nonsmoker and add text in the profile text details that you vape, including not doing so around anyone else doesn't or doesn't want to be near to it. You could also arrive to meet having cleaned teeth and mouth. |

I'm a non smoker, and detst smoking.
Personally, I wouldn't class vaping as smoking and we are ok with meeting vapers, as long as they are not puffing away on it constantly.

I think that although there's definitely a difference between smoking and vaping, as a non-smoker I'd say that selecting 'smoker' is probably the least wrong of the two from my perspective. Either way, I'd definitely appreciate it being mentioned in a profile, even more so if 'non-smoker' were selected. |

As an ex smoker myself I definitely wouldn’t class vaping as the smoking. Though vaping isn’t without its imperfections and for some vaping is the same thing for them. I’d definitely take it off your profile as a smoker, you’ve done the work switching to a more friendly and healthier option ( how much is still kind of in the air but it’s a start) so you should be able to enjoy saying you don’t smoke anymore. It would be handy though I think for a vaping option and smoke & vape option to be added rather than just smoker or non smoker to make it easier for people to be a little more transparent with others without having to note it in your profile or make a thing about it. Naturally then it’s up to others if it’s an issue for them or not x |

Totally agree on all points here .. I Vape now and don't smoke and it's not the same but I certainly cba to argue with folk who have never smoked or vaped ..

You should be proud. And no, vaping isn't the same as smoking.
I gave up smoking nearly 4 years ago after over 20 years and switched to vaping. I started on 2mg nicotine, then 1mg and I'm now on 0.5mg with the eventual goal of having nothing. Yes there are still risks, and some people that don't like it, but even the NHS will tell you that vaping is better (not good, but better) than smoking.
Everyone that has kicked the habit, vaping or not, should give yourselves a pat on the back!
Oh, and I too would like a 'vaper' option for my bio, but I've just written it in so that people are aware.❤️ |
