....a pretty neat trick on the web.
Some of you may know how to use reverse picture searches already. Usually handy if you suspect a profile of being fake.
Well i recently came across a few profiles on here that had VERY similar pics to some i've seen on profiles on other sites. That in itself was already a red flag to me, but i decided to do some digging.
Anyway, with reverse image search, i confirmed my suspicions, and even found some of the original sources of the images, which had been photoshopped (pretty well i might add) prior to upload here.
It isn't an exact science. If nothing else, it is a good way to see what photos of you appear elsewhere on the net, kinda like googling your own name. |

" I'm shocked ny the lengths people will go to! They must realise they'll be caught out pretty quickly "
Yeah, i've spent the last few minutes doing the image searches on another suspected profile, and see the pics had been pulled form a blog, cropped and uploaded here. |

"I'm on two other sites with the same pics .. Is there a law against that ? "
No, clearly it is you on those other sites. What i meant was that the profile in question didn't belond to the profile on the other site, and yet, had the same pics.
As it turned out, some of the images were photoshopped regardless, so clearly not kosher. |

"How do you trace them"
If you have the URL of a picture, then paste it into Tineye or a similar image search.
It will search the web for that image or anything close to it. If it finds a match, it will show you the website where it appears on.
So in my case, i got the image URL, did a search, found where it was on the internet and compared the two images. Turns out that the fake profile photoshopped the face of someone else on to the original image, then uploaded it here. |
