Would anybody now make and release the life of Brian, I think not, we have lost a lot of freedom of speech over the last few years as regards religion and ethnic sensitivities. |

"Would anybody now make and release the life of Brian, I think not, we have lost a lot of freedom of speech over the last few years as regards religion and ethnic sensitivities." I agree but then we have also gained some. When you think for example what we can say today about governments, the churches etc... was not always the case.

"Indulge me a moment please....
What are your views on freedom of speech on any given subject?"
They guy who invented Polical Correctness killed freedom of speech....and at the same time it made a lot of difference in how people are treated in the work environment! |

As the film in question has not been subsequently banned from broadcast since it's release then I fail to see the point. |

Yes, absolutely when talking about the government, MI5 and all that sort of thing but not about religion, we have gone backwards as regards that.
I would rather have freedom of speech in the constitution as in the usa, a guaranteed right. |

But it's not a guaranteed right to offend....even in the USA.

If the film was taboo in it's content then it would have been banned from broadcast, films can have their certificate pulled o suspended long after their release. |

freedom of speech a perfect example that some idiots use to simply hurt or cause intention for others to hurt people.
start allowing it as an expression in any case and what u get is people joking causing malicious offense
dead baby jokes pages: "if they cant handle our pages dont look, freedom of speech!!!"...
funny how everyone has an opinion on something thats funny when its not happened to them isnt it?, but hide behind one of our most valued aspects in our society
it is there as a right, to use..and NOT to abuse |

I am totally for the idea of freedom of speech but I also recognise that it can lend itself to abuse - I was thinking that we certainly have freedom of thought and maybe it is up to our individual concept of what is considered tactful before we open our mouths? |

with freedom of speech comes the responsibility to use it wisely... and I always reserve the right to respond to your freedom of speech in any way I see fit.. legal or otherwise....
freedom of speech just for the sake of freedom of speech doesn't work anywhere in the world... |

ok, here it comes from Wikipedia - not the source of all knowledge but a good starting point at times :
Freedom of speech is the political right to communicate one's opinions and ideas. The term freedom of expression is sometimes used synonymously, but includes any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, as with libel, slander, obscenity, sedition (including, for example inciting ethnic hatred), copyright violation, revelation of information that is classified or otherwise |

And from Amnesty International///
'Everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression, and to seek, receive and impart information through any media and regardless of frontiers.'

ANd the Liberty website : the right to freedom of expression and the right to protest are crucial in a democracy – information and ideas help to inform political debate and are essential to public accountability and transparency in Government |

Doesn't exist anymore.
People getting jail sentences for sentences they've written on twitter, meanwhile people mugging, robbing are getting away without jail.
It's a joke really. |

for those who say it doesn't exist anymore.. I would say it never ever really existed to begin with...
freedom of speech always came with consquences... and never gave you impunity which is the mistake many people make

we are all basically free to do whatever we want or say, it only depends on what whether we accept the consequences that others bestow upon us.The earth is my playground I can go where I choose..there is no magic barrier to stop me, but there are limitations on whether I can interact with the society I visit.
If ur truly free, u are alone and its only the natural world for company.
