The notification had popped up reminding me to renew my membership. It’s not a biggie, but a friend has suggested that paying the subscription is effectively me paying for sex, and that gave me the ick.
Are you a member? Why or why not? All advise/thoughts welcome! |

I'm a member and I don't consider it to be paying for sex, I think it's worth the money just to be able to chat post photos etc, the sex is a nice addition but some members aren't even interested in the sex just using the forums etc. |

We are members but on my singles profile I never bothered & tbh it doesn't make much difference for me personally, I'm not arsed who looked at me & I don't watch videos so it made zero difference for me personally.

Thank you. I enjoy being able to look at more of the conversation with older messages, and I do like being able to see all the images on people’s profiles.

I don’t watch general videos but if I’m talking to someone and they have videos then I want to see what they’ve posted - I guess I’m just nosey haha.

It’s not essential if you’re not really bothered by limited access to fab (ie: cams, viewing pictures, top pictures .. etc). It’s a good value upgrade if you do, and be active using the functions available. On a side note, I’m not sure how a member mentioned they think it relates to paying for sex, because obviously It’s not.
It’s a great community here, wonderful members and site provides additional functionality for those that enjoy using the extra bits of fab. Otherwise, fab is accessible without upgrade. You can still connect with people and enjoy being part of this community.

If you were on any of the dating sites and pay the subscription, would your friend also consider that paying for sex?
If you go out for a drink/meal with someone you have met and then go to a hotel (as you do not accommodate) and you have paid some of the bill, would your friend consider that paying for sex?
It's a subscription to a website, you are paying for the extra benefits that go with the subscription (such as being able to watch videos, see who has looked at your profile, add more photos, etc), not paying to meet anyone for sex. |

Yes, I’ve always had silver membership and thought it was a fiver well spent on having a giggle. I think she was implying the subscription implied desperation and was shameful, and never having thought about it like that before the concept has rather haunted me |

Not really tbh well other than the fact it's hidden currently because I CBA, but when I do use it I use it the same as this, for the forums, social events, people etc I've just not felt the need to pay on that one, none of the things I miss are things I'd look at anyway.

A fiver a month, I only pay £30 for 340 days and they usually give the whole year if you pay a week before it runs out through PayPal. |

I’m a member and I don’t consider it paying for sex.
Paying for Essex would be a transaction in which I gave money with the explicit agreement that I’d receive sex in exchange for the money I gave. That’s not applicable in paying a membership to use features of a site. |

I don't agree with your friend OP. The membership gives you access to certain features of the website that non-members don't enjoy.
If anything you are paying to "see" other people have sex (only members can see video/hot pictures).
If the membership guaranteed sex it would be both more expensive and I suspect over subscribed. |

I’m a member, have been for a while as I figured it helps the site providers to keep supporting and running it basically. It must be time consuming and it helps bring people together. I’m sure your friend is a lovely person but they’re way off the mark with how they view a subscription fee it’s actually a little ridiculous. The site does clearly states what the user gains by subscribing which definitely doesn’t include the procurement of sexual services and member or not as a user of the website no one is promised or obligated to do anything and that this is nearly a platform for people to meet. What they do or don’t do after connecting on here is between them and has nothing to do with fab and completely separate. With that kind of logic, every user of any dating site in the world from Match to Tinder and all the rest are paying for sex with anyone they go on a date with and hook up with. That’s just much of 2+2 = 5 type logic for me, that’s trying to twist the facts into something that just isn’t there or supported by the evidence. With that type of logic, even buying a date dinner, paying to see a movie would constitute as paying for sex if it leads to that and for me I’m just not that cynical just yet as it just seems like deliberately trying to look at everything in the worst light. Hope that helps with the debacle if it makes sense. In short I wouldn’t say you are or have but I don’t want to be disrespectful to your friend and their views either  x |

You mentioned that your friend implied that paying for the site shows desperation? Does this person swing? Are they a member themselves? I look at it a bit like a fan club, you've got the free service for the people that are fans but don't really want to make that commitment in seeing all there is to offer, they just want to show their support for whoever it is and then you got the other people, who are a little more hardcore and want to find out everything they can, they want an inside scoop, have functions the free version doesn't offer.
Thing is you can pay and still not get any meets, I pay and I don't meet at all now, literally here for the forums but I like to pay because fab is close to my heart and changed my life for the better (hence showing my support), I'm also a nosey bitch who likes to see who looked at me and stuff. |
