I've just got back from Lidl, and somehow managed to resist the Lidl branded clothing. Totally tempted by the bumbag though

But it got me thinking. What's your best, worst, or even middling purchase from that hallowed aisle?

Manchester-ish

So many! Best are the fake converse from Aldi. And the hammock. And the pizza oven.

Not really had a bad buy.

The best is the obscure tools you can purchase that get you out of the shit once a year.

Some tiered spice rack thing that goes in your cupboard so you can see all the spices without moving them.

Out of curiosity, is that physical or metaphorical shit?

So you can lie in your hammock, kick off your fake shoes and munch that pineapple off your pizza

Alicante, Spain. (Sometimes in Wales)

I got a soldering iron that doubles up as a jam maker and plays all of the Beatles ‘B’ sides.

It’s on a Croatian plug so you need an adaptor. But apart from that, it’s the perfect purchase.

All joking aside, I was in Northern Germany and I was very tempted by suede lederhosen. I often wish I’d got them.

Best thing. A box of assorted washers - many a time that box has come to my rescue.

Worst thing would be the paint brushes - half way through cutting in the bristles came out.

Almost forgot the Lidl axe - that was great, cost £10 years ago and was far better for splitting firewood than the £100+ ones!!

And did it come with a puncture repair kit? Asking for a friend

No repair kit sadly. It’s been repaired beyond repairing now. Patchier than conversations with “single” men on fab 🤣🤣🤣

I bought a halogen cooker because it was much cheaper than I'd seen them elsewhere.

It sat in a cupboard for a good while until my old one died, but when I started using it it didn't sound right, the fan on it rattled.

On its third use the halogen bulb shattered, spraying glass all over my mac and cheese. I was more bothered about the loss of my mac and cheese than I was about the loss of the cooker.

East of Eden, West of Hell

Many years ago (think tail end of the 1990s, not just 5 years back), I bought a small, silver and purple tent to take to Reading festival.

We assembled it in my friends garden first. Which was lucky, as the poles didn't quite seem to fit. We shortened them, using a hacksaw and it looked alright.

However, on erecting it at Reading, it was seriously pissed, and no amount of trying would make it it right.

It was not assisted by a group of lads who took a joy in vaulting over it (with differing degrees of success). They got an absolute earful from me, but continued, gleefully.

Being that it was silver, it was even more like being inside tinfoil.

The poor tent never made it home, it was ceremoniously burnt at the end of the weekend.

Worse £20 I'd ever spent, sorry - wasted!!!
