A wretched hive of scum and villainy

My trusty set of imitation converse are starting to show signs of wear and tear. What do you fellow fabbers use when doing squats n deadlifts? Are proper weightlifting shoes worth it or just a gimmick?

I've been looking online and there's tons of options

I tend to just take my shoes off and stay in my socks for big, compound lifts but have been thinking of investing in weightlifting shoes more and more recently

The Continental

I use Nike Metcons, flexible to use generally, but also give me a stable platform in the lift too.

Oh, and I don't think they're a gimmick either, the raised heel helps provide more stability and eliminates any ankle mobility issues

Socks only. Don’t wear shoes. It’s better for stability.

I have old Adidas lifting shoes, hardly any actual lift. When I could actually stand up to lift, I had better stability. I think I mainly wear them out of habit now, though they are quite supportive for my wonky foot.

Concur, especially on the ankle shizz.

Weightlifting shoes are great for squats and overheads. I've had a pair of Nike Romaleo 2s now for about 10 years.

Barefoot for deadlifts.

Barefoot style shoes for everything else. I like the Inov8 range

Nike Romaloes, the V2 are easily the best. I've had mine for years for Oly lifting.

Strength shop online do 2 x pairs around the £105 price point. They'd be a good starting point.

Adidas Adipower are good.

I'd avoid crossfit, metcons and the like if you're looking for a lifting shoe. They're not stable enough.

Feel free to pm me.

Definitely worth them if your serious about lifting if not then not so much as I would only use weightlifting shoes if squating or Olympic weightlifting like someone further up said the ideal shoe which is kind of a all rounder is Nike metcons hope that has helped pal

Always on the move

Adidas Dropset 2 are my newest purchase for the gym.

Comfy with a good solid base for lifting.

For squats have a pair of reebok legacy lifters which at the time had the highest heel height and from the reviews were better for taller people.

Deadlifts if I go heavy I do them socks, however most cross training shoes are fine Nike metcon, reebok nano etc

I’ve got a pair of Nike Romaleos and I love them. They are not made for walking in so remember to bring a change of shoes to the gym if you’re doing something before or after.
