Do you find that your internet searches' results are the same better or worse than in time gone by?

Bad searching practices obviously give poor results but I view search results as having gone downhill

The internet is dire these days - too much utter dross and clickbait crap.

Certainly the search results are plagued that way

Search results have deteriorated. Google are an ad company, so keeping our eyes on their ads for longer makes them more money.

Mine are ok, but they're often very specific so the hits are useful. The ads appear later

Not sure my ability to use search criteria has changed very much over the years. Could be wrong but doubt it. But no doubt over the years, gradually at first but noticeably more so in the last 2 or 3 years. Google serves me up more shite I have no interest in than ever. Of course it's putting sponsored results and money making at the top of the tree and also, I don't doubt the volume of content probably doubles every year. And the content providers are mostly not as disciplined as 20 years ago either. But no doubting it's harder to get to the stuff I want now than it was 5 years ago.

everything cyber has degraded ..... it's called enshittification (it is really a word, look it up).

the fact that enshittification (of the internet, tech platforms etc) is now comming for absolutely everything, has created a new word .... enshittocene.

I usually use ChatGPT or Gemini when I'm searching for information now.

If I'm looking for a product review I'll use Google to search Reddit.

Whatever product or service that is currently being marketed strongly that vaguely relates to the search I made.

I find so-called artificial intelligence to be a terrible source of information.

Isn't AI just being put in front of words now in the same way as "e" was out in front of words in the 90s to make it seem more revolutionary than it really is?

Yeah. And the new dot com bubble burst is coming. Goldman Sachs has put a paper out saying that AI is really not that great.

It's fancy predictive text.

The big problem with all current AI is that it's certainly artificial, but there's no way that it's intelligent.

AI is absolutely insane - ChatGPT and the like are just the tip of the iceberg.

I like the sound of that. Is it the era that we're now in? It could sum it up very nicely

There's a lot more seo work going on and obviously it's now being populated with directed marketing more so etc, search using a metasearch and learn how to create better formed queries when you do....
