Potter is actually the best (English) choice for this squad.
He plays a possession-based game and most of these players are playing in similar systems for their clubs.
There's a question mark around his ability to man-manage big egos, of which there are quite a few in this group.
The best actual choice would be someone not English, but FA doesn't have the balls for such a move because they know the gammon _hoir would be in uproar.. |

I just saw that. Think it's a shame that some noisy media have pushed him out. Feels like he was progressing and learning (admittedly slowly at times). But yeah as above said. It's a poison chalice when anything else but winning the world cup is considered a failure and comes with lots of media abuse. There was a noticeable increase in the entitled brigade the last 6 months with all the nonsense about having the best squad. We have some good talent we certainly do. Actually we have lots of talent. But... Unfortunately so do about 6bother teams in Europe and let's not discount the south American teams.
Anyway I think he leaves it in a much better place than when he took it on. Maybe a career in politics or sports adnin follows? He's a very likeable and capable man. |

Do we have an English/British manager capable of doing a good job ?
Forget Potter, he failed dismally when at Chelsea.
We need to go for a big name foreign manager with experience of dealing with the egos and and prima donnas, someone who's not afraid to have a clearout and not keep picking a team of 'names' and start using the talent we have at our disposal instead of the same old tired has beens. |

I would imagine Graham Potter or Eddie Howe. I have a preference for the latter but the former is acceptable. I'd take Fat Sam over Southgate though.

Every manager Chelsea have had since Tuchel has failed there. At this point it seems like it's more of a Chelsea problem than a Potter problem.

Along with a new coach we also need a new captain.
As for coach. As long as they keep the good work that Southgate did moving in the right direction I don't care if they are English or non English. Did the Spanish chap come from a raging success in club football? |

Their houses will be covered in England flags and whenever they go away on holiday they’ll be in The Bulldog having a fry up and a pint whilst complaining about everything.

I personally think it's a shame build him up to run him down we've had some great successes with him I mean runner up not bad and we played great football against Spain who I predicted would win it from the start ,the fans to an extent forced him out but it's the media that do it every time making false promises ,imagine Germanys press for the home side I imagine it's far worse than ours .Anyways I agree with you a very likeable man and good luck to him whatever he does next . |

I have a feeling Southgate will be remembered a bit more positively in years to come when England look back purely at his record. Two Euro finals, World Cup 4th place and a decent Win/loss ratio. Not too bad. |

I think in years to come Gareth Southgate will become more appreciated when you look at his record of 2 Euro finals , World Cup semifinal and quarter final.As for the next manager it worked with Gareth been promoted from the under 21 so why not give Lee Carsley a go although I think it will be between Potter & Howe as to who gets the job.With it perhaps been Potter as he is out of work so no compensation package to pay. |

I'm not aware of the England youth setup, but I keep seeing the name Lee Carsley getting mentioned.
What have the u21s recent results been like?
As much as Southgate was & is a bang average coach, he did at least have some success when he took over the u21s before getting the senior squad job. |
