Have a look on the NHS website for back pain. There's an exercise video and very good advice that will help, it doesn't include massage.

Thank you for your messages. It’s a long term problem . Been for a gentle swim this morning . on painkillers and just taking it easy. Heat pad on my back later. Swim in the morning and repeat until it eases up
