News that lags, will be released after serving only 40% of their sentences to free up space for more lags to serve 40% of their sentence. Why not send the buggers to Rwanda to finish their tie. We have paid them millions so let's have a return for our investment. We used to send the buggers to Oz so why not Rwanda. |

We have imposed too much on other countries already Tom. If the conservatives wasted our money and cut public services whilst mismanaging them, project your attention to them. Rwanda and its people only agreed to take money and refugees. It's bad enough that they got the likes of Suella Braverman swanning around there, after her luxury trips
Our prisoners belong here and their punishment was loss of liberty, not deportation |

"Dint ruin Rwanda it’s a lovely country , Kigali is just an amazing , safe city where everyone’s super friendly. Last thing they need is UK trash"
I have a friend who escaped the Rwandan genocide by the skin of her teeth, who would disagree with a lot of that.
She still can't go back, because of the risk to her life. |

"News that lags
"That should be the header on your profile."
“From your reporter, Behind The Times Tom”"
Hats off to both of you. A proper out loud guffaw was heard in Casa Gbat.

"Didn’t the Nazis employ similar schemes with regards to resettlement?
Take from one who knows at least 30% of those in prison should not be there.
"
They did "resettle" people, yes. Into massive camps and sealed chambers that were the very opposite of settling. |

The mentality that certain people are undesirable and ought to be 'sent elsewhere' is one I'd rather see less of than more.
I'd rather we invested energy into the societal causes of criminality and effective rehabilitation. |

I doubt the local tourist board took Romesh to the slums, or the prisons run by the secret police. |

Or we could invest more in mental health support as many of those in jail need support but aren't getting any. There are so many things better than locking people up (some definitely need it) but others need support, help to work etc.
More than half the kids who grew up in care, for example, have a criminal conviction by the age of 24. That's shocking.
Our prisons are at capacity and have been for a while. We need to try something new.

Agreed.
Tom can we have a new series? Toms travels? Tell us about the places you’ve been and liked and the ones you haven’t liked. "
Tom would you rather live in Petra or opposite it? |

i do not see deporting people a solution.
what i would like to see is prisoners who are not a serious threat to society trained and put to work on things that need doing.
for example potholes.
how hard would it be for prisoners to be trained in repairing roads with the possibility of future employment with that construction firm if they pass requirements.
all this im sure could be supervised and the prisoner gets out and does something useful.
of course a few would try to leg it, that is to be expected and they will be dealt with by the system.
railway maintenance etc lets give those prisoners a chance to prove themselves in systems that benefit the community and themselves. if they can see it will lead to employment and a chance to turn life around thats got to be a good thing |
