Not following sports I actually did something similar.
First meet from here, I arranged it at the same time as a rugby match (an important one by all accounts. Is there a world cup for rugby? Whatever the equivalent is).
When I realised I did go back and suggest rearranging, but we just pushed things a bit later, it was all fine.
I think most people would be pretty understanding given the circumstances! |

In my 20s I actually turned down a naked woman who danced in front of the TV when I was concentrating on a footie game.
