What is this reading to which you refer.

Don’t you know that reliable information is only available from Tik Toc and Instagram.

All other forms of brainwashing such as books are purely the propaganda of the ruling classes

I loved Asterix! I loved Dogmatix and the druid (Getafix?)

The only issue is that if I wear high-waisted trousers I can't help thinking I look uncomfortably like Obelix in them. Cursed knowledge.

I had an Asterix annual or two when I was a child, but I was far more interested in the Famous Five novels and pretty much anything by Roald Dahl. The only comic I read was The Beano, at least until I discovered Judge Dredd.

I used to read Victor, and then Warlord. I wanted to be a soldier! (Actually, I wanted to be a Royal Marine).

I occasionally saw Asterix and didn’t mind a bit of him!

I was brought up in SEAsia and whilst being exposed to American Peanuts cartoons, I also had the right wing evangelical American cartoons, such as the story of Nicky Cruz in the 'Cross and the Switchblade', or little 'tracts' which basically scared you about hell (such as 'This was your life')

Interesting. I agree, Nicky Cruz was a hero - gangs in NY in 60s seemed horrendous.

People on here are fascinating with such varied lived experiences.

St Leonards

As a kid, adored Asterix.

As a young adult, made a best friend who also adored it.

The humour was so clever - the woman who translated from the French to English added so much because a lot would have been lost in translation, but she kept Goscinny and Uderzo's humour and changed some character names brilliantly (I think Getafix the druggy druid, Dogmatix, and Chief Vitalstatistix were all from her mind, as the name meanings got lost in direct translation).

No. I struggled with reading yet also I struggled/didn't like following the bouncing about order of anything presented in comic book form. Although my mate was a big fan and I did like looking through the illustrations in his Asterix books and the cartoon series on TV. It ticked my intrest in Historical theme's.

When I was a kid my favourite books were map books. I could read and understand maps clear as day and they are logical. I found a lot of joy in route planning and discovering all the awesome places out there to explore (especially before the internet was an everyday resource). Odd kid I know.
