"Curious question....
What is the turn on when it comes to rope play?"
My non fab friend loves rope play, restraints and sensual deprivation, orgasms denied.
It’s a nice aspect as I get to have the control to give or deny but knowing that her pleasure and senses are heightened.
Rope play I’m still on the journey of learning but I’m embracing it |

As a rigger it's all about control, be it restriction, sexual play, creating exposure or the more painful seminawa (translates to t0rture rope).
It's about creating that head space where your partner/rope bottom can sink into and switch off.
It's about body manipulation and connection but also about having fun with it.
Rope play covers a multitude of experiences and sensations |

For rope itself, i like the texture, the way it moves as i resist and the bite against my skin
For anything else it's just the kink of restraint and knowing you can't escape but you can make minor adjustments as you wriggle |

There is the restraint aspect. The having someone at the mercy of my pleasure.
There is the sensory aspect. Some people prefer the feel of rope/silk/leather/metal… I go with what my person prefers.
Also there is an aspect of time, dedication and “care” with rope. It takes longer and can build the experience slowly.

"Thank you for the replies and insights. I've seen some really nice work but I just think I'd end up looking like a piece of meat ready for the oven "
I understand that. I’d never be restrained myself anyway - but I have always thought if I did my boobs would look silly |

The "turn on" depends on what philosophy of rope you have.
Although I think "turn on" is the wrong phrase. I prefer "attraction" there are many reasons to be attracted to rope.
But in tying a person the attraction for me is the connection and intimacy. But every tying session is different and is properly pre negotiated. For me it it is not imposing my will but reading the other person is the skill.
I also like everything about Japanese rope. The history, the characters, the science of rope and tying.
As alluded to, there are many philosophies of rope.
Western style rope is basically rope for the purpose of restraint and to do something with a person e.g impact or sex.
Japanese influenced rope has different schools with different attitudes. Japanese riggers talk about "kokoro" tying from the heart. It is about tying people who want to be tied and the communication in the tying.
I follow Haruki Yukimura's (RIP) style of carressing rope which is floor based. As has been pointed out there is "semenawa" suffering rope for those who want to test their limits associated with Naka Akira.
One of my favourite riggers Randa Mai (RIP) whose style I love called himself an S&M entertainer and not a rigger. Japanese style rope works fabulously with BDSM.
Rope can also be performed as a meditational practice between two people, in a non-hierarchical fashion which I also enjoy. |
