I am struggling to get excited over the football.

There’s so much football all year round now, I remember when the big tournaments were something to look forward to with the Pannini sticker book

You can see that many just want a break after the season and before the next

England are already qualified for the next stage, so you'd think this would be a chance for Southgate to experiment with his selection, but this is a guy who would wear a crash helmet on an exercise bike so expect the usual suspects.

Will never happen but I'd like to see a team where Jude Bellingham is told to just sit with Rice & Foden plays centrally. Drop TAA, if he's not a right back he's not a starter.

The one thing I do agree with Southgate on is he also seems to think that Declan Rice is shit after saying a few days ago that he misses having Kalvin Phillips in the midfield. What an absolute PR disaster that was

I just want them to perform in reality like they should on paper.

. I fancy England to win their group and as long as Belgium win their group England will play the 3rd from Belgium group which in theory should be easier to get to the last 8

. It’s a ageing Belgium side but DeBryne & Lukaku are still dangerous and Doku & Tilesman are good players we see in the Premier League every week so I would fancy them to beat England if they play each other at some stage.

It’s a con.

He looks world class alongside De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva.

The same as Bellingham looks world class alongside Tony Kroos and Luka Modric.

Take their security blankets away and they become as ordinary as the rest of the squad.

I think that's a little harsh on Foden, at least he was trying to make things happen tonight, but I agree playing in pep guardiolas system helps to get the best out of him.

I totally agree about Bellingham though. He really is just an average footballer with great PR, world class teammates & a very clever manager (Ancelotti) who knows how to pay him in a way that makes him effective.

Southgate doesn't, which is why he plays him in a #10 when the guy is not a creative player in any way.

To accommodate him, Foden gets shunted off to wing, & the likes of Palmer & Eze can't even get on the pitch.

I'm an egg-chaser myself, but what seems to be missing from a 'neutral' perspective is a tough captain on the pitch. Roy Keane type. Harry Kane is a good egg, but wrong personality and wrong position for captain. Players have to respect, but also fear a captain.

I’ve always preferred defenders as skippers. They can observe a lot more on field, than a striker that spends his time wandering around the edge of the box.

If the game is against Belgium or Holland…..they’ll be on the flight home Monday.

Any of the other 3 potentials……we’ll get fed more of the same and scrape in on a shootout.

Place your bets

Think he meant Jim Bowen to start. Probably hit the back on the net more often than the current lot and he's been dead years.

Super smashing great!

Newcastle and Gateshead

Basically Real Madrid having ruined the perception of Bellingham… let me explain

Real Madrid bought him as an 8…. Real Madrid have so many 6 and 8, they are forced to/ have the luxury of playing him as a 10… he pops off as a 10!!!

Play him as an 8 next to rice as a 6…

Foden played world class football as a 10… won player of the year as a 10!! Southgate plays him inside left….. I felt sorry for saka yesterday, as almost everything went down fodens side just like they were trying to prove a point!

Play foden as a 10, time to put up or shut up!… start Anthony Gordon on the left….

If it’s not working after 60… Cole palmer can com on for either foden/saka…. And then also bring on Watkins for Kane!

Assume you mean Gordon?

Would go with Palmer and Gordon, their natural game is to run at players and we need to inject some spark which might infect the rest of the team..

And Pickford should be given free reign in verbally telling those in front of him what they're not doing..

"England to win a thrilling match 0-0.

Great prediction (if we overlook the thrilling part)

I’ve never seen a bigger contrast on the faces of players for a 0-0 result. The Slovenia side looked like they had won the tournament, and the England players looked like they were beaten……"

Southgate told them to play low key purely to wind Shearer up

About 3 feet away from the fence

So, England lucked out with the draw again and will play Slovakia in the round of 16.

This Slovakia team beat Belgium in the group stage, but in truth that was a very smash & grab win.

Unless grows a pair and actually subs off players when they're having a stinker (hello Harry and Jude) I can potentially see a shock result.

I reckon Shearer is about ready to put his boots back on and show them how it's done

Although England maybe on the weaker side of the draw they could end up playing Italy in the quarterfinals and I fancy Italy would beat them

About 3 feet away from the fence

Jude Bellingham stats vs Slovenia.

0 shots

0 chances created

0% passes completed in attacking third.

12% forward passes (worst on team)

16 times possession lost (most on team)

22% of duels won (lowest on team)

5 petulant remonstrations with officials.

2 diva strops at own teammates.

Jude has more diva strops at the euros than goal involvements.

Good news: Luke Shaw is expected to be back for the match against Slovakia.

Bad news: Southgate thinks he's found the solution to his 8 problem

Palmer and Mainoo need more playing time. Either start them or give them at least half hour at minimum

It think it's paid for by FFP and being relegation candidates, right?
