It’s theft so I’ve heard you can defend your chips with reasonable force.

I thought you’d be dead by now from the sun poisoning of several days ago when you said you’d been given only 24 hours to live.

It saves arguments if you let the seagull choose from the menu.

It's their food and you are just holding it for them.

"On punching a seagull if it tries to steal a chip? "

Several gulls from Ness and Aberdeen follow you and make your final moments on Earth a flurry of white feathers and razor sharp beaks.

Share the chips...

Also there's no such thing as " seagull" ... several species of gull though including the herring gull...

The trick is to buy two bag of chips. One for you and one for the gulls!

I think this was a rare ‘flat concertina beaked’ one

It’s reasonable and proportional. So punching would be out…

"Seagulls are a protected species apparently ! "

Seagulls are not a "species", they can be one of many actual types of bird. In the uk they are mainly one of:

great black-backed gull

lesser black-backed gull

herring gull

common gull

black-headed gull

All of these ARE protected, so punching them is probably not allowed.

What if you just give it a Ducks foot

Like a back of the hand smack right in the beak 😄

To be honest, it would probably hurt you... those beaks are rather pointy

Hide those chips, and if a seagull finds them then you didn’t hide them well enough

"On punching a seagull if it tries to steal a chip? "

What's the law where?

The UK has got three different legal systems.

(Although I imagine the gull punching legislation will have some parity across them all.)

"On punching a seagull if it tries to steal a chip? "

I had one once swoop in, bounced off my head and snatched away half a sausage roll I was eating... I said I couldn't eat the rest as that flea ridden thing had its mucky beak on it... So my ex being a smart arse snapped the end off the sausage roll... Went to eat the rest and the flipping seagull snatched the other half right from his hand...

"Has anyone tried eating a seagull?"

The term "boobie trap" refers to sailors trapping boobies as they rest on ships during ocean going voyages.

The law is that you cannot do any harm to a seagull in any way ( while anyone is looking )

This is serious Todge... seagulls here now make life a misery. I daydream about how to secretively kill them ...... and I'm a gentle soul !

In Brighton there are signs on the pier to not feed the seagulls as they become aggressive. It's your duty to fight back, for their wellbeing of course!

Whilst 'towing rags" behind the boat, no doubt.

Who thinks up these incontrovertible 'facts'?

Hmmm. Ask the man who lives opposite us who when he moved here was pleased to see a seagull start nesting on his roof. Until he couldn't leave his house because it kept attacking him.

Nowadays as soon as a nest starts to be built it sadly and inexplicably disappears over night. I blame aliens.

if it flew anywhere close to me I’m punching it! We all have a right in common law to defend ourselves and that includes a pre emptive strike, so, punch away I say

I'm punching and protecting my chips. If the seagull wants to press charges and take me to court then I'll take my chances.
