Depends on the person.

I tend to find that boys have an overexcited confidence to them that can lead to dire results, but can perform better. Young women the opposite: their lack of confidence can impede matters.

Older men may lose ability but are more likely to be thoughtful about what they're doing. Older women definitely have the confidence.
