"Recently went to a very enjoyable performance of Madame Butterfly by a Ukrainian company. "
Good to hear it’s enjoyable as I have tickets to an upcoming performance of Madame Butterfly. |

I really enjoy opera.
I do find, though, that some performances are a little uninvolving in some modern, acoustically pristine venues. I prefer seeing them in older, smaller places, where the music “hits you harder”.
A big tip from me would be to attend the pre-show talks that many companies do. It’s a great way to get insights and hear the performers very close to you. It really brings things alive and showcases their power and talent.

Yep, absolutely recommend this. Also, if you have a local opera school (we’re lucky to have one of the best in the world in Glasgow) get tickets for their end of term student performances. You essentially get short scenes of opera’s ‘greatest hits’ in a stripped-back setting. Great stuff. |
