What do you do when your favourite cosmetics change their formula and it no longer works for you?

I’d go find all the stock of the old formula available wide and far and buy enough to last me at least six months. To allow me time to sort out trying new makeup brands without being pressed for time.

My foundation shade has changed drastically. I've found my perfect shade, and the formula actually feels better than it used to do but fuck me it stinks like paint and I can't bear it.

I think Chomsky's solution of not engaging in covert operations to destabilise countries, war and installing phony governments, which allow global companies to profit from their resources to the detriment of their own citizens.

I reckon that's probably a good starting point to resolve the problem.

Or you could just send them back from where they came. Did you check your returns policy?

Panic lol. If I find a product I love, I try to buy it in bulk before it’s inevitably discontinued. The best stuff always goes first. I think cosmetic manufacturers only make so many units of a product and when it’s gone, it’s gone. The replacements that are usually marketed as ‘improved formulas’ very rarely are

Places like Amazon, eBay and Vinted can be good for finding discontinued items, but obviously have to be careful that they’re not fakes and are still safe for use/hygeine sealed.

I been working in the industry for a few years now and we changed our formula and made the brand go down hill, seems mad to change when what you doing is working out well! luckily I still got a few bottles of the good stuff left.

A lot of brands fall under larger umbrella companies so it’s worth looking at those brands first for close equivalents if your favourites get discontinued.

YSL, Lancome, Urban Decay, Georgio Armani, NYX, Maybelline, L’Oreal Paris, Garnier, Vichy, Prada, Shu Uemera, La Roche Posay, iT cosmetics, are all owned by L’Oreal group.

Estée Lauder, Bobbi Brown, MAC, La Mer, Tom Ford, Clinique, Origins, Aveda, TooFaced, Bumble and Bumble, Smashbox, and many others are owned by Estée Lauder group.

Dior, Fenty, Guerlain, Benefit, Givenchy are all owned by LVMH group.

In my case it's that my skin tone has changed and my beloved foundation (No. 7) now makes me look like I'm aping Donald Trump, but I'm not so bloody pale to be the only shade below that.

And choosing foundation is a pain in my arse at the best of times.

(I was inspired by Chanel because I've heard a lot of complaints that their bronzer has gone to shit. I don't use bronzer, as it happens)

I can relate lol. My sister is currently going through a crisis as her favourite setting spray is discontinued and she can’t get it anywhere

I find a lot of Chanel foundations oxidise, as do Diors and Lancôme’s. YSL have some very light shades and Nars do too

I was matched to Nars Mont Blanc and Mac N4.75 recently, but I can't quite come at spending that much on foundation (And the Mac smells like paint. It's not as heavy feeling as it used to be, but I can't be doing with the smell)

I really like Maybelline foundations as a cheaper option (their Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation in a black and turquoise tube is brilliant!). The Maybelline SuperStay skin tint is meant to be fab too but I haven’t tried that yet.

I think I might dab some of the Mac tester I got on my hand and see what testers I can find in Boots. I appreciate it

A few years ago No.7 absorbed most of Global Brands and consolidated it a lot of it products in that process
