Anyone else do them
I've done one or two in the past. Although I normally do weekends or overnights instead.
Not as easy since covid as my local airport doesn't go to as many places as before and flights are more limited. Ie used to be able to get a 6am flight to Rome and a 21.50 flight home the same day.
If you do.. what's been your best experience or worst.
I'm looking at taking my daughter for a day soon for her birthday

Before London had good Mexican restaurants, I would fly to Dublin simply to indulge in authentic Mexican food, and be back the same evening.
I’ve been to Paris and back the same day on a whim. |

I always see these tiktoks saying they did Venice in a day (or somewhere similar) and I think to myself I'd love to do that but I never do.
That said, I did get a ferry to Calais some 25 years ago with my ex husband to go for dinner one evening when being a foot passenger cost hardly anything, I said one afternoon "I fancy going abroad" so off we went to Dover and was in France a few hours later for probably only a couple of hours. I remember going with my family once too and we went to the beach in Calais (yes they do have one), completely forgot about that, memory unlocked! I think it's when the sun was doing their "France for a pound" things x |

I did lincolnshire to Aviemore and back in less than 48 hours last year and Aus for a week a few years ago. Not sure that helps though and I can’t actually say I’d recommend!
Think it’s a lovely thing to do with your daughter and I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time.
I like Copenhagen and Rome for short trips. |

Florence the same day used to be easy. Not so much anymore. At least not from London.
If flight times allow, it’s a great extreme day trip destination as the proximity and ease of getting to/from airport is perfect.
Don’t go during the summer rush though as you’d barely get around the city much with the hordes of people about. September - April would be best for this. |

Yeah I wanted to do Florence. Looking at Bologna as a possibility.
Rome is still possible but for me I have to get to London first which is a pain |

When I worked at Gatwick, we used to have a customer who would fly to Amsterdam every Wednesday to buy fresh flowers (how he got them through I don’t know!) and lunch and then back.
I second Florence- very easy to get to and fro. Also Pisa.
Shorthaul airfare is soooo expensive at the moment though. (Well, any airfare!) |

"We've done Manchester to Nice for the day. That was nice.
J
Are you trying to subtley say Manchester isn't nice? "
It was a Nice/nice play on words. Obviously too subtle
Manchester is both awesome and a shithole simultaneously!
