Recent polls state most under 40's do not have a funeral plan in place, nor payed for?

Will your family be paying for your demise, or hoying you in a wheelie bin? Current basic costs for a funeral are nearly 4k!...are you paying, or expecting your council to pick up the cost?

I haven't got a funeral plan. Hopefully it's no time soon but I've told my family I want a no frills as less money as possible and they can have a reception/celebration themselves.

Part of me is considering donating myself to medical science.

It's not a conversation I can have with my daughters, after losing their mum it's too upsetting for them.

I'm quite happy to just donate my body to medical science it's all taken car of then.

I'd rather they keep the money and go on holiday with it or something.

When the ashes are returned plant a tree and put me in the roots or thrown me in the Mersey, whatever really.

I will probably go in beside my mum and dad ( much to my mums dismay). The plot holds 3 so be a shame to waste it. A few drinks and sandwiches after for friends and family and playing music from my playlist is the plan. Shouldn't cost too much and I have money put by to cover the cost. I did want a white whicker coffin covered in sunflowers but that will probably change to a cardboard box.

I’ve just told my sons to dig the next drive they do after my death a bit deeper than usual and put me in there.

Failing that I plan on leaving them a good inheritance they can just pay it out of that

I have 'willed' or 'in trusted' enough funds and property to my kids to keep them financially sound after I have gone.

Therefore my death doesnt phase nor worry me, especiallyafter my past 'near misses.'

I am confident that I can slip away now contented that they are all sorted and looked after.

The issue is that even for a no frills funeral you're looking at about 3-4k... Most folk ignore this. So at some point someone will have to pay? Living family top of the list

I’m going to do the direct cremation thing, family know the sort of party I want once the ashes are sent back.

I do have a kind of sick sense of humour at times, so I want them to make party bags for everyone, in it will be an envelope with my picture on and some of the ashes in it

There will always be enough to bury me

I intend on spending everything else though and giving anything left over to an animal rescue

The property will go at some point too - again to be enjoyed or gifted

I have no children

My nieces are taken care of in my sisters will

I look after them now too - why should they wait til I'm dead?

You can get a 'direct funeral' for less than 2k though I know that wouldn't suit everyone, a basic traditional one is available for 3k. It's worth preparing and pre paying as its only going to get more expensive. I'm a proper ray of sunshine aren't I

Pfft, you know I haven't even thought about it much. But I probably should. I've had to fork out thousands for three family members funerals in the last 5 years and it's a lot of stress during an already very stressful time. I should know better really. I'll definitely start something, even just a tenner a week into savings and hopefully I don't die for a very long time.

You can organise with local hospital to take your body free of charge and still have a wake , leave a couple hundred pounds in your will to buy drinks.

My funeral has been paid for for a couple of years now.

Pure Cremation.

I chose everything and my daughters won't have to lift a finger.

Plus with me planning it early it cost a fraction of what people pay now and it will never go up

I was just looking at pure cremation, It looks to be the next cheapest option to the hospital disposal route.

Anybody who dies without leaving some kind of plan for their love ones it’s pretty selfish in my view

I’ve had to deal with a few dead people and it’s a nightmare there’s a real pressure to ‘do the right thing’ and spent thousands on polished hardwood and all that nonesense.

No plan yet, aside that our funeral costs can be paid from our Estate, which if we both die tomorrow, there's plenty to go at.

If only one of us dies, it's a credit card jobbo or something from the budget range. I quite fancy the sort where they plant a tree from your remains. But theres not many places you can do it. Otherwise, a cardboard coffin will suffice. It's just going to be burned and it seems an awful waste of good wood.

When I turn 50 I’ll start paying into plan. I want either a natural burial or one of those drive by funerals where they take you off to be cremated and then drop the ashes back to the family. No service. No fuss.

Medical education is the way forward. It really is the best way of letting the doctors of tomorrow learn.

There are certain prerequisites for medical education/science,including weight. And there I'd a time limit between dying and getting the body preserved prior to use. So make sure you look into it properly, let your next of kin know your plans.

Your family will ultimately get your remains back a few years down the line, and the university covers costs.

There is also a lovely memorial service where medical students can meet the families of people that donated to med education. It's a very humbling service to attend.

It's such a good thing to do, so thank you!

NoK are not required to or responsible for paying for anyone's funeral. They can ask, but you can say no even if you are a multi millionaire.

Just the same as councils cannot expect or require NoK/Attorneys to pay for the care of their relatives, but it doesn't stop them asking or expecting it.

Being biologically related to someone does not mean you have anything to do with them, and potentially for very good reason.

People's Estate should be funding funerals before they pay out to any beneficiaries. It's mainly people who don't have anything or enough to leave behind, who will finish up needing the Council to pay.

Rubiksville

I have a pretty decent life assurance policy meaning I'll pay for my own funeral when I'm gone

somewhere

I'm in the process of sorting a plan, I can't handle the thought my boys or Rubik having to worry about paying for my funeral, I've even written stuff about my life for my boys so when they need/want to say something at my funeral they have all they need.

I even have my spot that I want to be scattered on, I had a still born brother born in the late 60s and he has been alone for long enough, plus I'll be near by grandparents. I wanted to be buried for the longest time but after moving so many times, not really having roots and not really having close family, I thought what was the point?

I used to be afraid of death but after witnessing so many in my old line of work, I am no longer afraid.

My parents are all paid for, all their paperwork is in a 80s porn mag, so when I need a laugh the most, I have that, my sister sorted hers recently too and I'm trying to get my brother (they don't have any real significant other) to sort his but his mindset is "I'm dead, doesn't bother me" so if he goes and I can't afford it, he will be having the cheapest possible, we aren't really close and he has more than enough money to sort himself out, I know it sounds harsh but why should I fork out thousands that I don't have?.

"No, I'm worth more dead than I am alive at present.

They can just stick me in a wicker basket and put me in the woodlands burial site not far from where I live.

That'll do

That's circa 7k...have you paid for this upfront? "

Wouldn't need too, after my death it gets paid straight over to the listed people. Paperworks done

"I have life insurance, I need to go through it again to make sure all is still ok

I've told my kids I don't want a funeral, I just want to disappear off alone to be dealt with. Last thing I want is for my kids to sit in a cold Crematorium looking at a box...

I've told them to let me go and they go off and do something awesome

My eldest has said he wants to put my ashes in a firework. I think that would be perfect "

Some of my sisters ashes went up in a firework as per her request! X

This is an interesting post! We’ve done what we can to ensure the other will be financially secure, should something happen.

Havnt thought about the funeral and pre paying, I will look into this

BRIDPORT

Just a thought, to people saying that their funeral can be paid for from their estate/will, the funeral directors will be producing a bill shortly after job completion and will want paying, it may well take several months or longer before probate is granted and someone can access funds to pay bills.

I had to pay for someone’s funeral in order to avoid late payment penalties and then got paid back out of the estate many months later.

"It's not a conversation I can have with my daughters, after losing their mum it's too upsetting for them.

I'm quite happy to just donate my body to medical science it's all taken car of then.

I'd rather they keep the money and go on holiday with it or something.

When the ashes are returned plant a tree and put me in the roots or thrown me in the Mersey, whatever really.

Have you signed up though? I did this as an official for my exs partners mum. But you need to sign up beforehand. Legit in any death situation you really do need to sign up beforehand! "

My mother in law had made all the arrangements for her body to be donated to medical science, and it was her dying wish which she has discussed with me and her son. But her daughter went against those wishes and had her cremated before we could intervene. Very sad. I have since felt that I would like to donate my own body to medical science, but I don’t know how my children and remaining family would feel and I think that once I am gone it is most important that they make the choice of what helps them to deal with it best.
