Its because a lot of people have no concept of their surroundings ro any spacial awareness.
I ride a motorbike as well as drive a car and it shocks me how many people have no clue what is going on around them when they are in a car.
Basically everyone else should all be banned from the roads, except maybe you steve, seeing as its your thread and if theres only two of on the roads in Britain sure it'll be fine!

"Why do people hog the outside lane
I personally drives me mad as often the the inside lane of the motorway is empty when they do it
Steve "
Do what i do, it's called the loop.
Drive up behind them get really close but not close to cause alarm, at that point undertake them and then move in front of them. If the car is still behind after a minute of two move into the middle lane and let them overtake you then you move back into the outside lane and drive close behind them again, continue to do the loop till they get the hint.

Tell me about it
I commute by cycle and the level of spacial awareness from most drivers is frankly dangerous.
I wonder how many people on here are aware of Rule 163 of the Highway Code???? |

We all bitch about bad women drivers or idiotic male drivers however...........
........I have parked up in many's a supermarket car park and seen a labrador etc sitting on the drivers seat.
can't ever recall seeing someone doing something stupid while driving, looking over and it being a dog!!
I vote that all dogs become the nominated drivers for us!!
we can even get pissed then too!

"Drivers unaware of which lane to drive in , should be clamped down on by the traffic police ,just one of the things cameras dont do ! Poor and bad driving is far more dangerous than speed , I drive cars , trucks and bikes and see too much bad driving !!
I'll count to 10 now ! "
I'm with you there I drive several hundred miles a week and also have a motorbike so see too much bad - not just fast - driving Z |

To be honest its been bred into us from a very young age!!

....he never wears a seat belt
........drives everywhere at the same speed
.......doesnt break going round corners
I mean what chance did we ever stand really! |

It is the middle lane hoggers in the rovers and t hat that do my head in.......oh and the people who drive too close or undertake on a motorway.
Even if the person is being a pest hogging a lane, it is the people who under take that can cause the most damage. |

Here occasionally, but mostly somewhere else |
In terms of lane hoggers, I see about 20 middle lane hoggers for every outside lane hogger.
And I must be honest - I have been known to undertake occasionally, which I'd say was reasonably safe for the outside laner's - there's a lane in between, after all. Undertaking a middle lane driver IS more dangerous, but on the other hand they're not likely to pull over are they??
The type of driving that really irritates me is the sub-genre of the middle lane hog - the one who drives as fast as possible in that lane. If an HGV pulls out, they'll do 55 behind it, when the lane clears, they'll do 90. This has the effect of making them perform "the loop" ((c) grecian ) on me as I use all three lanes to maintian a constant 70. Winds me right up, sometimes to the extent where I'll find myself in front of them and curious as to how slow they'll go before they overtake. Once (on a motorway that was otherwise virtually clear), had one down to 40mph before he pulled out to overtake me.
Final point - best drivers (generally) are HGV drivers & bikers. Worst are van drivers. Bus drivers are surprisingly bad, taxi drivers unsurprisingly bad. |

The offside lane is the safest place to be as there are soooo many fookin twats (and lorry drivers) flicking between the middle and nearside lane without indicating.
On the subjext of lorry drivers; Do they think that just because they are hauling approx 15 times the weight of my car that it's ok just pull out?
And motorcyclists, here's a tip: If you want to be safe, be seen, as sitting on the rear wing of my passenger side in my blind spot is probably a pretty good way of sampling hospital food - if you survive that is. Bikers should only be let out on bank holidays and sundays. grrrrr |

Does anyone flash lane-hoggers to move in?
I don't, and I hate it when people do it to me, especially Beamer, Audi, Merc and Lexus frigging drivers!
Not that I was slow, I was slower than the loonies doing 100mph+ that's all! |

I'll flash anyone hogging the fast lane when their overtaking nothing !
Middle lane hoggers annoy me the most, I do a lot of miles in the car and quite a few on the motorbike and some folk just have no idea how badly their driving |

HGV drivers being good drivers? Not the ones I see along the M6.
Last year when we had rain like a monsoon and bad winds, visibility was virtually nil so I did what I try not to do when lorries are about, got in the inside lane.
The man in the HGV wanted to sit in my car too.
I asked a lorry driver on this site why they drive so close to each other, and he said it is to get a slipstream. As I was in a car what would he get from me?
I then asked our next meet who happened to drive a lorry the same question and he said " because they are mad and on a deathwish"
I think the second answer is closer to the truth.
