We are all autistic to some degree. As a parent of a child with Asd I would just like to say, I'm lucky to have such a special child, and the challenges she brings.
Autism is a genetic disorder... just making you aware |

"Autism is not genetic by any means, it's neurological. Everyone being somewhat autistic is a common mistake some people make."
There is not enough medical information or research data available to confirm one way or the other on that one. However, what IS a fact borne out by statistics, is that in the majority of cases where a family has a child with Autism, you will find either a sibling with Autistic traits, or a parent with them.
That is NOT to confuse those who happen to do some things which people with Autism also do, such as turning the toilet roll to always pull from the same side, arranging the items around a sink in a certain - and specific - way each time they have been used, etc, etc. The list on that is endless.
I have been able to pin point older relatives from my immediate family, and those of my girl's father who show these traits. My youngest daughter has severe Autism and my elder daughter displays some of the 'traits', although in a mild form. |

We don't have a diagnosis of Autism because the paediatrition says We all have autistic traits. I bet you life makes you get up at the same time, you. Will have the same daily routines and if by chance your routine is interrupted, how well do you handle it? |

I (Mark) suffer from Aspeger's syndrome but its not rare for me to have an Autistic melt down from time to time.
I find it insulting that there is so much championing of Autistic Spectrum Disorders in Children but once you hit the rip age of 18 your cast adrift into a government system that is uncaring and far from helpful.
I was diagnosed a few years ago and my life has improved in some ways but has gone backwards in others, no money and no job or career.
The biggest thing I tend to find is ignorance causes the biggest issues, people tend to demonstrate a lack of tolerance very quickly. Swinging is hard because it relies on the social aspect first and one of my downfalls to most people is
Telling the truth by being honest, open and direct.
Jayne does despair and struggle at times! Usually with people's attitude.
Regards
Mark
Ps, From what I understand Autism is a developmental disorder that is genetically linked... and I can trace on my mother's side males mostly who have demonstrated one or more markers for ASD conditions.

Do you think difficult births, eg. Oxygen deprivation, have an impact on whether people have or develop ASC? As it's a spectrum, a lot of people might have it very slightly...those who like and obey rules, who don't like change, who are organised maybe....? Shy....loners....but good at some things.... |

A difficult birth wouldnt have any impact on ASD at all, it is already known to be a developmental disorder in the womb. With it being genetic its already in the instructions that make up DNA and the building blocks of life in the persons family tree.
People's attitude to ASD are the things that limit its understanding. Take Denmark one company in Arhus actively seeks out people with ASD because of the nature of the work the company does they claim ASD staff perform better.
But hey ho... I usually get bumped off into horrible dead end jobs where I am spoken to and treated like shit.

Mark, the example you give about the company in Denmark just shows how enlightened the owners of that business are. If you have some form of production, manufacture or service which requires intense concentration, or repetitive attention to detail or any of the myriad qualities people with Autism possess which far outstrip those of a 'normal' person, then any company making use of those qualities is onto a winner, isn't it? Clearly that's what the Danish company has done.
The thing that would worry me in the UK, is that that would be taken as an excuse to exploit people - and it's happened in the past... sadly. |
