Take a huge bottles of water with them to the air-conditioned gym when all they do is stand around on their phones 90% of the time ?

A few of them slowly limp around like disabled people picking up really heavy things but still they are hardly gonna get dehydrated are they ?

"I’m assuming this was at a commercial gym?"

I didn’t realise there were not-for-profit gyms?

Also what’s with the ridiculous clothes? I’ll just go in whatever roll out of bed in, Joggers and a T-shirt.

And the ridiculous fads ? Barefoot deadlifting ? Balancing on one leg, trying to squat while holding a 2lb dumbbell, With her other foot on a step. She looks like she’s gonna fall over whilst doing some ridiculous mating call

Functional training ?

Picking things up and putting them down again, going up and down stairs, bending down and reaching up, I.e doing your bloody housework in lalaland with an audience.

Pay to come to a gym and do pretend housework then pay someone else to do your actual housework. It’s a great idea , it should catch on.

I don't go to gyms but I do see people who can't do their shopping unless they have a cup of coffee in their hand or take a ten minute walk without a bottle of water

I take a bottle of water swimming with me. Go figure. Unbelievably, I work quite a sweat up.

Second star to the right…

I give up asking questions like these, gyms have changed.

As long as they are not hogging equipment by spending 10 minutes on their phone and 1 minute training. I leave them to it….i have a firm but polite way of moving them off the equipment if they are hogging it as a seat while they browse IG or FB

Having not darkened the door of a gym for a good few years, it sounds like nothing has changed. I us d to go to a popular hight street gym for cardio. I’d get on a cross trainer 40 mins head phones on and go, it had built in sky tv but I never watched it. Much more fun watching the people around posing or doing what ever. I bought my own cross trainer in the end much cheaper, mind you it has turned into an expensive clothes horse.

Ummmmmm. I'm not keen on this similie. It isn't very flattering about disabled people. Some of us will outlift you all, limping or otherwise.

I incline benched 47.5kg in the gym last week, for two reps, so not even 1 rep max. It was a PB. I was watched by a guy who LIFTS. Like, he's huge. He weighs about 150kg and it's pure muscle. He was impressed. I was pleased with myself.

And if I try to walk, I either fall over or limp with crutches. I generally don't bother and just wheel everywhere. But I still lifted more than most.

And I take an ordinary water bottle

"...Balancing on one leg, trying to squat while holding a 2lb dumbbell, With her other foot on a step..."

To be fair, a few years ago I swapped from strength to endurance, mostly long distance triathlons/ironman. This kind of balance work is what I tend to do now, helps with running stability.

I’ve stumbled across these hydration station American Tiktokers a couple of times. It’s so bad but can’t stop watching them ruin good water.

Please don't ever judge people by their workouts. I've been rehabbing spine surgery for nearly 6 months and all I'm allowed to do is functional training and the occasional bit of static bike. You have no idea how much I want to throw heavy weight around and go for a run! But medical professionals still say no...

Same here I used to ride a lot of Motocross so I used to go 3 times a week to work on cardio never lifted once but I do move a lot of heavy machinery..

Always makes me laugh when I ask for a lift and they send out the "strong man" there's always a ritual like stretching, few deep breaths, good technique etc then they'll always always be the one to want to put the machine down half way.

Not knocking anyone but if you're gonna go do it properly it's no good going 5 days a week doing the same routine and living off microwave curries

There and Here

I remember a thread not so long ago where people were falling over themselves to claim they're so busy concentrating on their own workouts they don't notice other people, what they're wearing, what size they are, etc etc and were champions of "I'm just happy to see people in the gym trying to better themselves".

And yet here we are...

I don’t think she was training for triathlons. If you fall over a lot when running maybe it’s not for you….. Or your shoes are a few sizes too big?

How do you know what she was training for? Or if she had any other purpose than to satisfy her own intentions? Does one need a specific purpose to go to a gym? Or can one just exercise for fun?

I have a 2L water bottle. For me it's a reminder to rehydrate and keep track of my water consumption.

I imagine for a lot of people it's just a way of keeping track of their water intake
