Are an absolute ball ache these days! I'm talking about the ones in arenas or stadiums. Sometimes it's £100+ and then there's the resale prices.

Kind of makes me wish I'd seen some acts in smaller venues when I had the the chance years ago.

I’ve seen a lot of tribute bands and to be honest if you close your eyes it’s like listening to the real thing. A fraction of the price and in some decent venues

I've given up on them, went to a gig last week in a 100 capacity, basement venue, £15 and saw a Swedish band i never thought I'd get to see. Luckily most of the bands I'm into are pretty obscure, so arenas aren't really a consideration!

Agreed.

A couple of bands I wanted to go and see this year….and the tickets were £65+up each.

I’ve opted to take the family to a live monsters of rock night instead. £60 for all 3 tickets.

One of the reasons we go to festivals. You get to see a range of bands for the cost of £100 per day.

Seriously though… went to see a band at a stadium in 2012 for £30. Wanted to see them last year and the cheapest ticket was £95. Ridiculous.

It is indeed a very current and very real phenomena. Its main cause is music is dying. Or rather its big hitters are. Or are on their way out. Sorry if that sounds too morbid but its a fact. The "legends" are getting long in the tooth so many fans get "FOMO" worried it maybe their heroes swansong so are prepared to pay over the odds. The other factor that promoters cash in on is many older generation fans will only got to 1 maybe 2 gigs a year so can, and more crucially, will pay the asking price.

The bubble is bursting though, hence this desperate glut of bands doing very extended "farewell" tours, often with only a couple of original members, their shot-to-hell voices bolstered by pre-recorded backing tracks. All for the princely sum of £300 a ticket. Maybe more. And this cannot sustain indefinitely. Already a few acts who normally sell out in seconds have spare tickets available - often at huge discounts on the day of the gig. I've even seen some get given away free in attempt to fill cavernous arenas.

So at the minute, yes, we are asked to shell out ludicrous money for tickets. But it will continue to ease somewhat.

Like others have suggested go and see smaller acts in smaller venues, you may just catch the arena fillers of the future in a more "Oh yeah! I was there!" cooler intimate setting. Plus it helps venues and artists to prevail.

What have you done to deserve this?

Being boring… I don’t know enough Pet Shop Boys songs to keep this going

The problem is everything has gotten more expensive.

Think of a large venue like Wembley and how much it actually costs to rent and pay the staff to run it safely

Even something like the 02 was over £100 for Nickelback
