Friendly enough that you can spend the whole day in their company and they don't annoy you most of the time, but enough distance to know that kissing & cuddling is not required outside of sex (and in the case of kissing, not wanted at any point from my pov) |

The ones I swap memes with and occasional updates on fun things that happened in between the "So when we banging?" texts and occasionally go out in public with, they're friends with benefits.

My ideal FWB situation is someone I can hang our with as well as fuck - doesn't have to be all the time but I want to like and feel comfortable with a person if I'm going to get naked with them. If I can watch a film with them, snuggled up on the sofa then that suits me. |

How do you quantify that?
I’ve got some friends where we don’t speak for months, then bam pick straight up where we left off.

As friendly as you are both comfortable with. The odd message checking in is always a good thing if you have not been chatting for a while. Meeting up whenever possible.

Friendly. I always consider the "benefits" to be secondary and if it's just a very casual friendship and you only meet up to fuck, don't talk very often... well it's fuck buddies.
That's not to say I want daily communication, want to be bestest friends with those I'm fwbs with but if the friendship isn't there? We're fucking but making it polite. Bit more socially acceptable. |

Mostly this. Only the friends keep catching feelings, it’s most annoying.
Would add monogamy to the top one, and long term future plans in order to define as a relationship over fwb.
I may message/socialise with fwb a bit more than described as above but that romantic connection would be missing. |

Well I did at one time have 3 FWB and the Mrs full time.
It depends on everyone's expectations all me included liked the messaging sending funnies and catching up as and when.
Mrs of course took priority then one about every other week and the other two about once a month or do as they were not local so took a little arranging.
Before I get pelters, Mrs knew about everyone and all the details as she had her own couple of FWB on the go.
But my FWB knew I had a Mrs but thought they were my only play friend.

I have come to realise that the friendship is more important than the benefits. The benefits I can get as a casual fuck, club or from a FB. The regular messaging, spending time together and having a laugh are important but for me what sets a FWB apart from just another Fab fuck is trust, openness and honesty. That is hard to find. |
