My dog passed away a while back but still miss him. Today is one of those days. Loved doing lots of stuff at weekend from walks, trips away, lovely breakfast outside when weather was good and even a nice pub lunch too. Always made me happy and lifted the mood when down. Do you love spending time with yours and what sort of things do you enjoy.

Sending hugs, MB. No doggie stories from me, either, sorry. I have cats. One likes to bring presents every so often.

I had to say goodbye to one of my dogs in March of this year, I miss her terribly so totally get what you’re going through OP.

I have another and he’s 14 years old, arthritic hips, he’s gone deaf and wears a dog diaper as he’s a bit leaky, sleeps most of the day too.

I know the inevitable is looming but whilst he’s pain free and eating well I know he’s ok.

Dogs are never just pets, they’re family……

MB don't break my heart bud - it's too early

My lad is 14 now, showing all the signs of slowing down, deaf as a post and with failing eyesight

I am going to be lost without him

I have vowed though, when he does go, no more dogs til I retire

Although fostering rescues is also milling in the back of my head too

BumBums - I'm sorry you still miss your doggy so badly.

I'd echo John though.

There's never a good time to take on a new non-human animal companion.

But there's never a bad time once you have made that decision.

Your last companion fitted in with your world, your next one will too.

You'll adapt to each other xxxx

oh MB - its hard when they go isnt it - Bubbles was 16 and grew up with my daughter - she was my best friend and was the worse puppy i have ever had - Jack Russell - but I had to make the decision last November that she was deaf, blind and incontinent. That is a memory i dont want to recall. I still hear her plodding around up stairs - she spent most her time lying next to my bed upstairs.

Have you thought of being a dog buddie? there are people that would love someone to be their doggy's friend and take them out for walks etc - there are schemes that do it but you may know someone in your neighbourhood that maybe works too much or is unable to walk or take their muttly out as much as they would like?

or bite the bullet and get a new pup -

I've had a few dogs in my life, each one a very different character. Very different energy levels.

The common thread being affection, playfulness and a love of food. We shared in all, although I was never too partial to chicken heads or kibble. I even shared my steak on occasion.

I hope your memories bring you comfort MB.

Ah, MB. So sorry to hear this. Our pets are truly our best friends.

My cat passed away in February. I was distraught. And only now am I getting used to not seeing him to run out and greet me every time I come home.

Last night, I was rummaging around under the sofa and found his little toy mouse. I immediately burst into tears. Back to stage one of missing him

East London

I can no longer take mine for park walks.

I used to walk the eldest to my daughter's, through the park, at 7.30 am, to babysit my grandchildren.

A 45 minute walk there, and back.

I could let him off the lead for 5 minutes in the park, as it was quiet and he was a good boy.

Then I got his sister and I'd walk them to the same park at quiet times to go to the "snake grass" area.

My son takes them in his van now and I miss those times.

They stick to me like glue indoors, unless there's food upstairs, so I get a lot of time with them still.

I'll miss them when they're got, but I won't miss the dog hair everywhere.

I had two dogs for 15 years and they both passed within weeks of each other back in 1995. Thirty years later and I still think about them both almost daily.

I like to borrow a doggo occasionally, so I don't have to go walkies on my own. It's always more pleasant and interact with so many more people!

Oh I've just had one of mine PTS, she was 13. I miss her as my nap buddy, she was a great weighted blanket. And the only one if the gang that gave proper kitty kisses.
