"The Euros were news to me until today when I had to join an obligatory sweepstake at work.
I got Portugal and I have no idea what that means and I'm particularly interested in finding out. "
Definitely one of the better picks |

It means if Portugal win, you will win money I imagine. You’ve got a good chance as Portugal are currently the sixth best team in the world if you believe the fifa world rankings. Best of luck |

Enjoyed the 1st half , thought England did OK with Iceland playing well , expected England to go on and win quite comfortably in 2nd half but seemed to run out of ideas , with at times looking like Iceland more likely to score the next goal
Looking forward to The Euros , hoping for a Good tournament |

"Southgate has more chance of winning Euromillions."
He's taken England closer to winning the European Cup than any other Manager.
Other than Sir Alf Ramsey he's taken us closer to winning the World Cup too. |

"Yes I remember. I think it was said that if you were an Icelandic man between the age of 18 and 29 you had a one in twelve chance of being picked for the squad ! "
Nerd alert: that seems low. Assuming a squad size of 20 it would imply there are around 240 18-29 year old men in Iceland which can’t be right.
This then made me try to work out what I reckon the actual odds are. This my working:
Population of Iceland is 389,000. There are typically around 12-14% of the population in a western country in the age range and half of those would be men - say 7% if the population would be eligible.
That gives us around 27,000 males. Assuming a squad size of 20 then you have a 1 in 1350 chance of being picked (27000/20). That sounds kind of close to 1 in 1200 which is probably what you heard. That’s pretty good odds if you want to play at Wembley! |

Hate to be a pedant (but I will) we were closer to winning the world cup in 1990 than we were in 2018. |

I watched the game last night and the one before.I have to admit I find friendlies this close to a major tournament a hard watch as no one wants to risk injury.I think England have a good chance to win the Euros but are not that much better if at all than say Portugal, Spain , Germany , Netherlands but the team to beat is probably France who I think are a couple of levels ahead of the rest.Dark horse could be Italy as if they get out of their group historically they know how to win knockout games. |

And let's be honest, England had a very favourable draw on the way to the semi finals, and the first actual good team they played, they lost. |

Just watched the highlights, Germany were wearing a terrible blue, pink kit.
Football has sold its soul to commercialisation. Just thought national teams would keep tradition and culture alive. What next Brazil in red..? |

East Germany traditionally wore blue shirts, so they are keeping tradition alive. |

Its not actually blue, my mistake. Its actually pink and purple. I googled the Bundisliga official website and this is what it says about the kit.
The away kit with its pink and purple tones marks a new approach designed to reflect the new generation of German football fans and the diversity of the country.
Am not a old fart that doesn't like change. But this is just not cricket

Well the Germans sold out when they changed their kit from adidas to Nike.. no loyalty anymore
You have just to have a look on the toffs website to see what classic shirts they have coming in for the euros |

That was definitely a bad move, Puma would at least have kept it in country but Nike? |

Our politicians have long ago sold the country to the highest bidder. Interesting book called Vassal State, about how much of the business in this country belongs to American companies. |
